  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fun...

it is a lot of fun. i find grading my Red footage the most fun. very excited about stage 3 and what it is you won't tell us yet.
 
It is a joy for me to read through this thread.

It is poignant on a variety of levels, but none so important as the insight on the man himself. This is his passion; it is his reason, and his shear excitement in what his company has done makes him giddy. It also shows his attachment and admiration for the folks that have made it all possible. I have known Jim for a long while; I have known him as a friend and as an employer, but mostly as a friend. For a man of power and great success, he has an uncharacteristic compassion for those around him. The closer you get to him, the more apparent this virtue is and when he hugs you, you know it's real. He's not a backslapper or the guy that's going to go around throwing out accolades and praise, but I know for a fact that he appreciates, beyond measure, the sacrifices and tireless hours a venture like RED demands of the people that make up the RED Team. For me, his friendship is one of my greatest treasures. He is a man of substance and of loyalty, supporting you in good times and not forsaking you in bad. This is what makes him great in my book and what puts him on a different level than anyone. He is brilliant in a way that billionaires aren't expected to be, but it is his human side, his character, that separates him from his peers.

I won't name names, as the list is too long to recount and, for sure, I would leave someone out, but the commitments made by the people at RED makes every one of them my personal hero. Taking on the industry is no mean feat, and the handful of people that have so drastically changed the landscape, in 4 short years, should each receive special acknowledgement. They have been a part of something truly unique, a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference, that will ultimately be the real reward, but their efforts and their day to day struggles are not lost on Jim. He knows, more than anyone, the price of greatness. For all of them, this is a nod from the boss that their work is critical to the success of the company and that he, especially, knows their sacrifice. He has given each and every employee the opportunity to be involved in something truly special, but more than that, he cares for them, appreciates their contributions and considers them family.

This is not a typical company, not by any measure; it is an adventure piloted by an enthusiast, passionate about the art, with the resources to change the world. It is a phenomenon. It is a miracle. The revolution is being met head on by a man who thrives on challenge. When anybody with an ounce of sense would say, "screw it, I'm going to Fiji", he says, "thank you sir, may I have another." He is driven by adversity and wouldn't be happy had this been a walk in the park. Jim is what makes RED so formidable to anyone or any company interested in taking us on. The more you throw at him, the more fun it is for him and only makes him push harder. It is such an amazing dynamic to witness and such an awesome journey to behold.

RED is just getting started. What lays ahead for all of us, because, ultimately, we're all 'the customer', is going to boggle the mind. And you know how I know? Because Jim said so. That's all I need to know.

It seems so rare in the business world to have a company with such loyal employees who deeply trust the man in charge. Thanks Jim for showing us what companies should be like in this great country of ours.
 
Indeed Jon! One thing that we can't forget is that not only have you guys as a team (with Jim at the helm) created a company that is breaking new ground every day at lightning speed, you have forced the entire industry to follow. I don't think that this industry would be where it is today for years to come if it weren't for Red. It seems like the big companies' product lineup in so many ways is in direct response to the Red program. They have ducked in behind and are drafting. Lead on!

It is very true that RED never sleeps.. not because we are insomniacs, but because It really is too exciting...

Really.. someone should interview the fly that sits on our walls inside RED and ask him what a day looks like. Heck.... this is just a sliver of stuff that happened over the last couple of hours...

- Jim ( just when you thought he went to bed) just finished polishing off a new idea.
- Brent was up at 1am going back and forth with the Software team to push live a new EPIC firmware. Thank the stars for Brent. And our Software team.
- Deanan is up ( he is always up ) being a lifeline to a slew of productions and individuals shooting.
- I just got an email from some of our assembly team that are getting ready to start a day that never ended. Ninjas...
- Our rockstar prototype Machinist Dave is still up cutting something I can't wait for you guys to see.
- Kent just solved a problem.
- The web team changed something on RED.COM at 12:30am.
- Our lead Mechanical engineer just sent me some notes.
- Our Security team just checked in.. making sure everyone is safe..

Seriously though.. this was just the last couple hours. After midnight.. on a School night...

We are proud of the RED ONE. We are very proud of EPIC. But nothing comes close to the amount of pride we have for our Incredible Team.

There is one person who probably won't ever get the credit he deserves for RED when all is said and done... Frederic. I talked to him 1st about this project. He introduced me to Ted and Graeme. He did a lot of the legwork in 2005.

I'd like to tip my hat to Frederic. He is now doing what he loves. So are we. Isn't life grand?
