  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X begins...

That rack could capture a 140K image!

That's the bomb EVF not the original red EVF, which is no longer in the store. There's been a fair amount of questions regarding the EVf working with epic. The rumor is, some seem to and some do not. It's been asked if red has an official stance on whether our evfs will be $3k paperweights or not... And as far as I can tell, zero response from red.

Which may or may not be telling in itself.

I have two original EVF's and two Epic-M's and neither work on either body.

...I hadn't gotten that information from RED. From the threads I've read some M users who have tried the EVF it seemed to work. I didn't see any threads where it said it didn't work. Sorry for the confusion.

I think you may have missed my second post, Greg.

Jim recently recapped what's included in the stage 2 package. I've been scanning the latest posts but I can't find it. Can anyone lead me to it please? It's time to put together my shopping list.

Thanks.

here it is

Stage 2 was changed recently. The newest package includes an EPIC-X Brain, Titanium PL Mount, Side SSD Module, 5" Touchscreen LCD, REDmote, Module Adaptor, Pro Battery Module, 2 REDvolt Batteries and Travel Charger.

Not a paperweight, its still a great solution for Red One's...sell it and upgrade. Or keep it for your R1

The code to drive original EVF's are in EPIC... but it only works with specific versions of the EVF firmware. The original EVF firmware was not user upgradable, so owners of those existing EVF's that do not work will need to send the EVF's in for an upgrade when that firmware is complete, which it is not yet. Firmware is variable from EVF to EVF as components change, so we are still working on a firmware that will hopefully work with them all. No promises yet.

Good to know! Thanks for the 411

Ahhhhhhhhhh

That's pretty much along the lines I suspected. Thanks *very* much for the clarification Jarred!

This really put a big smile on my face. As somebody who has followed Red from as far back as Mike Curtis' original report on this wundercam from some fly by night operation, who patiently waited and saved until I could afford a Red One, who has had to face ridicule from the naysayers right along with the Red team...I am proud of this moment for Red and the Reduser community. Red stuck with it and with us, and we stuck with them. I am looking forward to purchasing an Epic in the coming year and continuing the wild ride that is being a Reduser.

Thanks to all the guys from Red that spend the time to communicate here and also to all the Red employees whose names we haven't come to know. I don't know exactly how many people Jim employs at Red, but the nameless rest of ya deserve a big round of applause and hopefully for some, a well deserved break. I'm guessing based on Jim's recent comments about all the announcements and surprises that September holds...those breaks will be very short ;)

EpicX rolling out is BadAss! I am all ready to go $$$ and all. I need that 2nd Epic for my 3d rig.

I will be rubbing my Brent genie bottle until I get the email ;)

Prost,
Rich

Okay just crossed my mind. That top plate. It has S35 on the top of it - which is really cool and obviously the sensor in the camera.

So does that mean when the sensor changes *cough RED Dragon, that RED will change the top plate to the designation of the sensor e.g. FF35???

Just a thought *cough

:-)

No one ever said anything about RED Dragon being FF35...
