Hello everybody,

I just made an apple software update two weeks ago (itunes and the regular stuff) and after this update my mac pro didn't want to boot anymore: I always had a grey screen and the mac pro asked me to force shut down by pressing the power button. I managed to start holding the SHIFT key, but after a restart the grey screen showed up again, also PRAM Reset didn't work. While troubleshooting I removed the AJA Kona 3 Videocard from the card slot and tata, the macpro performed like before ...

so nothing directly red related, but maybe someone can chime in:
- has anybody made a similar experience?
- is there any compability chart?
- does downgrading via timemachine etc. help?

best wishes and kind regards,
martin

Which version of OSX are you running? Do you have a RedRocket card installed as well? ... there's been a conflict between RR and K3 card for a while.

I recently did a fresh install of Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and a Kona3G card with latest AJA drivers and all is well ... no problems ... FCP 7 and SMOKE run just fine .... but had to uninstall RR drivers.

If you've upgraded to Lion that may be the issue.

Neil, thanks for your fast answer:
- no rocket card
- osx 10.6.8

best wishes and kind regards,
martin

Now that the laptops and iMacs can do virtually anything a non-pro could desire could we please get a next generation tower from Apple that can handle the kind of demands our industry places on hardware?

Please Mr. Jobs, we're feeling a bit abandoned and the killing of FCP7 at the launch of FCPX didn't help - but let's not go down that rabbit hole...

Cheers - #19

Can you be more specific on the issues of Kona and RR? Really not compatible?
