  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC side handgrip configuration

The handle on the right is the standard RED handle that has full control of menus and operation. The handle on the left is inert.

Would love to be able to mount the smart side handle out in front on a shoulder/hand held rig extension handle.

For some builds/holding positions the location on the side of the brain is great, but up on a shoulder rig it can be too high and too far back to easily utilize.

I am thinking of a receiver piece that would look kind of like a round handle that had been sliced lengthways with a rosette mount on one end. You could mount either the current smart side handle or some future hybrid handle/controller for FIZ operations, etc. The flat face of the receiver would presumably have the same contact pins and mounting hardware as on the side of the brain.

I love where the Red Team is going with more electronic and servo control over lens functions. My personal style as an operator would be enhanced by the ability to locate those smart controls on handles that are well positioned for various setups. IIRC there was talk about a "Super Grip" at one time that seemed to be tracking down this road.

Perhaps a hybrid of the side handle and the RedMote that would have an ergonomic shape for the hand, could be mounted in multiple ways and use RedLink so no contacts or cables...???
