Anyone have any news or updates as to this issue. I recall reading about it some time back and I've had no significant...check that. No problems with power spike coming up on my monitor--UNITIL TODAY....had it happen about 4 times in a row, then seemed to go away. If you have had this happen, you know what it means. If you have not had it happen, then as you are shooting, you get a warning that comes up on your LCD saying "power spike detected" then the camera shuts down, so you obviously loose the shot you were on. Kind of annoying to get it so many times in a row, then to go away....

Anyway, was shooting 24fps; MOS; shutter 1/48....some with HDRx and some not.... @ 320iso; 5k 2.4:1

Johnny, can you send us the log file from your camera?
(deanan at red)

You actually don't lose the shot that was rolling fortunately. It cuts off where the power spike comes in and shuts it down but you still have the clip until that point, whether it's useful or not :)

I've had it many times on my 490 camera but I had it sent in and received it back today, hopefully the problem will be reduced/eliminated. We'll see!

I had the same error pop up on my Epic yesterday while i was shooting. What is the cause of this error? I was shooting 24p/HDRx +6 with RedBricks.

1.6.20 should eliminate it in almost all cases.
For anything remaining we need to get the logs to further diagnose.

Happened twice to me a couple weeks ago (red bricks i think, though I was on house power a lot that day too). Didn't realize it was a more prevalent issue. My hope is it will be resolved in a future build and not require a physical modification. Maybe the Red Volts will be ok too.

(edit: looks like my answer arrived in the previous post as I was typing this)

Conrad, thanks for sharing - Lim

It hasnt happened on my 1.6.20 camera. It happened only a couple of times on previous builds. I noticed it was only when the batteries were fresh off the charger - let them hang out for a minute and it was fine.

Yeah, i did a search last night and after 9 pages gave up looking for that thread....i knew it existed since i had read it a few weeks ago...but good ole search came up with only EPIC M threads and nothing when i searuched Epic M Forum with search term "power spike".....might have been the Pacifico beer and late night, but did not find it, but thanks for the news Curran.

Unfortunatly not all the times... I would say 30% of the time the shot was not lost in "those days" before build 1.6.20.
Like power shut down due of low battery voltage, you would also loose your shot as there is no force post record before shutdown.
Loosing a shot is like opening a 35mm can. You would fire your 2nd assist. It could be a no go for a producer not willing to take this kind of risk. Strange that on batman we recieved reports on this forum that in 2 month of shoot they didn't have any trouble.

I've heard that the build 1.6.20 emproved (or killed) power spikes.

RED always improoving their dream camera.
