It comes as no surprise that there are quite a few cool accessories for the EPIC out by now. RED of course produced some of their own great products, but there are also some very cool third party accessories like http://www.innocinema.com/index.php and http://www.viewfactor.net/index.php/.

But what about the SCARLET...?

This is perhaps a little premature (July 12th 2011) but anywho, here goes:

I thought this thread could be for anyone to express their accessory-wishes for the SCARLET...
Or if anyone has some news about this subject that they want to share with the rest of us...
Or perhaps a place for the producers of these awesome products to perhaps announce some SCARLET accessories or give us some hints or shed some light on what to expect.
Or, what contents you might wish to see in the main package - or perhaps several package offers.

Just about anything that is related with accessories for SCARLET! :)

Personally, all I need is Redmote PRO. It wouls allow me to ditch rods, baseplate and followfocus unit. I could just put scarlet on tripod and be done. I wonder, though, is Redmote PRO is still being developed...

I guess the timeframe for REDMOTE Pro is somehow tied to the release of RED's electronic lenses.

I'm under the impression many of the Epic accessories will work for Scarlet. Are there any that we know for a fact won't work with the little brother? (ignoring anything that clearly wouldn't work with the fixed lens model)

Sure, a LOT of the accessories will work on either an EPIC or a SCARLET. That's kinda the basic concept of RED's DSMC line - that you can easily swap the modules and other bits and pieces from model to model. And almost everything in RED's DSMC line will work on both models. But there are a few exceptions, like for example: when it comes to the Full Metal Jacket system that Brook Willard made, it only fits the EPIC (M, but will probably also fit X and S) because of the specific width and length, ect. of the EPIC-body. And I suppose that also is the case with a lot of the accessories from Action Products.

to be accurate it exists, the product we will eventually buy might not in it's exact form but the camera does exist. But building accessories for a yet to be released camera that could still have some changes is not the best idea, and honestly I'd expect to see them popping up just before the scarlet ships just as happened with Epic.

Who said that?

No one in particular, it's just my best guess based on current trends. RED has stated that the camera will be released when it's ready, but there have been posts from Jarred and Jim designating time frames for expected release in relation to Epic-X. Though the circumstances aren't always in RED's control (i.e. the Japan earthquake/tsunami) the fact of the matter is Scarlet has continually missed its projected release time frames. First it was summer of 2010, then it was end of 2010, then it was spring of 2011 just after NAB, then it was summer of 2011, and now it's fall of 2011. I'll bet that this fall there will be another announcement projecting the release of Scarlet for end of 2011, and the pattern will continue until summer of 2012 which is when I really think it will release.

This also might just be my way of avoiding disappointment.

Please. This is not a tread about expected release dates for the SCARLET, but about accessories for the camera (to come). The camera is not out yet, true - but that doesn't stop one from having specific wishes when it comes to gearing out your future SCARLET.

As I pointed out, there's already a great amount of exciting accessories for the EPIC. Maybe some of these will also be produced for the SCARLET.

Maybe this tread will let the producers of these accessories know that there's also a potential market in the SCARLET-crowd ...who knows :)

But please, I plead You: no more talk about release dates. There's already enough of that going around on this forum.

Scarlet is pretty well finished as far as the hardware and dimensions are concerned. I doubt we will see any more changes there before release.

ActionProducts (and Innocinema) will be designing for, and supporting the Scarlett when the time comes. : )

Thanks. This is really good news, and I bet I'm not alone to think that :)

Maybe you can't reveal this yet, but will there be SCARLET-versions of some of your EPIC-products?

Hey Nuka, until we know exactly what the Scarlett is coming with, and its details are a bit more set in stone, we don't know exactly what accessories are needed. Most of our EPIC accessories were designed out of need for various solutions, but with the Scarlett, we don't yet have all the information we need to develop these solutions. However, the electronics crisis overseas being somewhat resolved is nothing but great news, as it will only bring the Scarlett's release date that much closer!

It's going to be an odd market for the Scarlet. Most people are sweating bullets over a $1k price increase for huge performance increases. How many are going to spend $2.5k for a 'hand' milled accessory package? Then again the large volume of Scarlets might inspire more mass production accessories to be designed.

My last exercise at estimating a reasonably capable Scarlet interchangeable field package came in around $18k including the lenses I already have and a modest supply of batteries and media. Enough for about 6-8 hours of camera on time and 4 hours of footage in a day without recycling SSD's. This is entry level 2/3" broadcast camera territory. People sweating over a $1k increase in the price of a brain are not looking at the whole picture I'm afraid. Production ready Scarlet will not be a cheap camera system.

I agree 100%. I think people need to realize that the SCARLET cameras are PRO-camera - that means PRO-budget. Remember, EPIC and SCARLET are already amazingly cheap when you realize what you get!

But I also find the thought of mass production potentially generating a price reduction of these products interesting. Could this be possible?

Just to put things in perspective:

These following prices, of items I suspect will be included in the SCARLET FIXED package ( NOTHING OFFICIAL AT ALL ), were taken from Jim Jannard's post. Notice that the SCARLET FIXED brain isn't included (or the lens for that matter!): http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?60950-Significant-Update...

Product .................................... OLD PRICE ... NEW PRICE

SIDE SSD MODULE ........................ $1500 ....... $1500
DSMC Side Handle ........................ $950 ....... $1,750
RED Touch LCD 5" ........................ $1,600 .... $1,950
REDmote ..................................... $550 ....... $750
REDVolt .................................................. ...... $195
DSMC Travel Charger ........................................ $125

Makes a total of: ............................................ $6,270

If what have been said recently about the complete SCARLET FIXED package price point - 6K USD - still remains...then I'm speechless!!! If the final price ends up being more than that...I'm still speechless :D
