Hallo

First of all i want to introduce myself. I am Kameraman in Austria and work in a Studio of a private Television Company.
So i don´t have any experience with the Redcamera at all.
In my private time i have a little workshop for me, where i own a milling machine and a Lathe as technical Equipment.
I come in this Forum because a Kollege of "peter roehsler" which has a Redcamera, let me making some Stuff for his Equipment.

Last time i saw here the Cineslider from Kessler and i was interest for myself, if its possible for me to build a Camera Slider
basics on some regular Aluprofiles and aluminum plate.

Before i talk to much, i will show you the last Version of my DYI Camera Slider.

Alu_Stahl32.jpg

The Slider isn´t finished yet and have some technical vulnerabilities which I have to get better.

I will show you some technikal Details now.

The Rail:

The Basic of my Slider are regulare Aluminium Profiles with the Dimension of 60x30 mm and 15x15 mm.

Alu_Stahl2.jpg

The Profile with the Dimension of 60x30 are mounted together with Distance Pieces, so you get the rail.

This Distance Pieces have to be very exactly, Differences of more then 3 1/10 mm would be Bad for the later moving of the
camera sled.

The camera sled:

The camera sled ist making of a 6 mm Aluminium plate and the Rolls are Polyurethan Coatet ball bearings.

Alu_Stahl35.jpg

It also have a Tilting mechanism which make it possible to make bevel moves.

Like this:

And at least a Photo from the central working Break:

I hope you enjouy my DYISlider and I apologize for my awkward English, it's Google's fault alone. :coolgleamA:

Greetings from Austria
Walter

Thanks for the benevolent Coments !

I have just say some complementary Words to my Thread. All parts you see in Pictures are made by myself. And some Parts are anodising by myself, so you may see the same things in diferrent Pictures in different Colors.

The Tilting mechanism is be able to turn about 90 Degrees, so you can directly filming the Floor without turning the the Rail.
The would be interested by moving over Flowers maybe in a documentary movie

One Thing thats really vulnerabilities is the second Leg thats in the first Foto a lighttripod. We testet it and it works terrible. Therefor i must create a better solution.

When i finishing the second Leg, you got more Infos again.

I agree with Richard. The tilt is awesome.

Thank you for the compliment, oder "Küss die Hand" wie der Wiener zu sagen pflegt :smile5:

The Tilt was a really hard work, because i have not any CNC Milling Maschine. And the Tilt I also build with different Materials.
The left part is build in POM and the right part in Aluminium (Anodised). The Reason of that is, Alu on Alu together is a very bad Combination and brings after some Time working, bad Scratches on both parts.
With Alu and Pom combinated it will do not happend.

At least I will post a Link to a Company named Igus witch has some Stuff for Linear motion, specially for DSLR in the Sortiment

http://www.igus.de/wpck/default.aspx?PageName=FILMTECHNOLOGY&CL=DE-en

In the Time when I am make the Legs for the Slider I will show you some more Pictures from usefull Tools for filming which I also made.
One of these was a Ring in Material Plexiglas for Focuspulling.

The Problem that I have for mount that Ring was, that the only space for mounting was over the Ring gear. So I made a groove inside the Ring.

Here ist the mounted Ring on the Red Camera.

Greetings

Cool a fellow home fabricator, your work is very very clean. I wish i could get my hands on a lathe and milling machine

Cool a fellow home fabricator, your work is very very clean. I wish i could get my hands on a lathe and milling machine

Thank you for your compliment.
The problem with a centre lathe and milling machine is not the acquisition, but the extensive accessories, that often the double price of a new-bought machine Putting out.
Before it becomes too dull I have a few more pictures of an order which I have explained of the last year within 14 days for a Steadycamoperator and Equipment Rental Service. For Bobos project I have made a body Mount for DSLR Cameras.

The camera which to her on the sledge see is no DSLR Camera separate served only as a dummy.

However, a problem turned out with the camera sledge shown on top if one turned the camera from the pole tangent, the horizon also tipped in the picture.
This read then with a ball head again equalise.

Because this solution was dissatisfactory, I have inserted on the camera sledge a rotary mechanism to be able to bend this.

I hope you had a little fun in my things and there is the next week then again an update with regard to Cameraslider.

Greetings

wow, amazing works, really smart solutions.

really cool allu-mech.

Hello
I am still working to build the Legs. It isnt easy but I have to finishing till tomorow evening.
Because on Tuesday my Slider will have his first employing for a shot with Students of the Vienna Filmakademie.
The Leg isnt finished jet, but in the Picture you can see how it works.

Alu_Stahl48.jpg

The Leg is build with Bosch Rexroth Profiles, which are used primarily in the machine and equipment making.

Then on Wednesday I also have a few pictures of application.

that's all very cool stuff you make.
do you also sell your products?
grüße aus berlin.

@Christian
Yes I sell my products, in the special one, for example, the body Mount was a pure commissioned work.
The Slider has one more prototype status and is only rented for first.

@all
By the Way if there some User from Austria/Vienna here, I am just looking for Betatester. Witch means I rental the Slider for free just to get a Feedback (good or bad)

With interest, please an PM to me.

In the end I would still like to owe the Austrian video device rentalcompany AV Professional for the free rental company of the Millerstative. This has helped me very much.

Servus Allemiteinand

So my camera slider are ready and thus he looks folded up.

Alu_Stahl49.jpg

Like her see I have still mounted a handle and have provided the thread poles of the set feet with a protective shell.

Alu_Stahl50.jpg

Now thus the part looks finally from in the low state:

Alu_Stahl51.jpg

And here delivered:

Alu_Stahl54.jpg

And this position is criminal already a little bit. :coolgleamA:

A few more detailed pictures:

Alu_Stahl52.jpg

Alu_Stahl53.jpg

So today the first hard onset was sometimes with a shot with students of the Viennese film academy.
I had surprisingly a lot of words to the device not to say there some were hard inspired.

Unfortunately, has put itself, nevertheless, out that the Red ist too heavy, or my construction a little bit is too weak.

To good last a few more photos right now primarily from the film team.

Alu_Stahl55.jpg

Alu_Stahl56.jpg

Even if I must admit now that my device is not good for all things, the thing has given a lot of pleasure to me, nevertheless, particularly as I have learnt a lot, besides.
But maybe the Problem ist her at the camera sled.

Alu_Stahl35.jpg

When I make the wheels double, perhaps we can get a better Performance.
Greetings

Hello
Bevore I continues my Slider, I get the following commissioned work which I will also show to you. I had to build bycicle camerarig for a featurefilm produktion.

The bycicle ist about from the 1960 and is in good condition.
And thus the Rig looks out:

Fahrrad22.jpg

The Rig is completly build with Bosch Rexroth Profiles, here a Picture from the tower in front of the bycicle.

Fahrrad23.jpg

On the Top you can see the Camerasledge wich can be tilting and fixing on every position of the tower.

Fahrrad24.jpg

Today we made the first testing shots and bevore i show you some more pictures from that shot i will give you some information about that feature film.
The film will shot completly on the Red one camera and DP is Peter Röhsler, which ist also a member in this Forum.
The working title ist "walking on the beach" which will be direkting by caspar Pfaundler.
The director (on the bicycle) has driven itself the wheel and was also taken about the professional implementation of the Rigs very much.

Fahrrad30.jpg

Now some of you will squeal "However, this is not a Red"
Properly, but Peter wanted to risk no accident of the camera which would have endangered the whole film. So he decidet to shot this sequences with a "a cam" which is
smaller an lighter than his Red one camera.

Fahrrad28.jpg

And for him it was also to be pursued today sometimes a good opportunity again extensively sport.

Fahrrad27.jpg

And her the last picture with the tower in the back for the overshoulder shot.

Fahrrad29.jpg

Till present I have still seen no material, tomorrow then is the big day to see like my construction has proved itself.
If here interest exists and permits the production to me, I will show with pleasure the shooted material here.

For user that are more interested on technical detail, pleas look a that thread in my Forum
Greetings
Walter T.
