Dave my friend (Hope I can call you that since we've never even met!)

I need you to kick Premiere CS 6 up a notch. Please include the following:

A KICK ASS color corrector that includes keyframeable masks, I.E. Power windows with tracking and stuff. And tied into CUDA for realtime feedback and play. (or at least CLOSE to it)
Better support for Time Code
Ability to view a 1080p monitor without losing our CUDA mojo

I know how advanced Resolve is and I am not asking you to "throw this together" but if you could get it started and build on it over time. That would be wonderful.

I think these three features would put you in a whole different area.

Thank you for listening to me. You always do.

Sure you can call me friend, I think I am a friendly guy...

We have heard the requests on color corrector and we know about monitoring without losing CUDA. You can feel comfortable that we know about these requests...

What do you mean by better timecode support. We have fixed most of our known issues in 5.0.3 -> 5.5 What is not working for you.

BTW, all you REdUser guys... I am going to disappear for 2 weeks. I am going on vacation :) Very much needed... So that is why I won't be posting on here. While I am gone the most excellent Todd Kopriva will be watching these forums. He is much better than me anyways ;)

See you guys in July.

Cheers
Dave

Hi man,

I agree for the color correction tools. And for R3D uses, a COLOR CORRECTION tools that alks to the Red Metadatas (so not the same tools as RedCineX or as in the window that appears by right clicking on... I think it is "properties" in a R3D file..). I mean a color correction tools that isn't a filter but that is tweaking Red's metadatas so it does the job done. I don't know if I'm very clear (Being french kinda suck when I want to explain something like that). That's something I think every NLE should be able to do.

Premiere's GUI is almost great but I think you can make it a bit more compact (smaller buttons that take less space on the screen, more space for viewers and time line).
I think a clear proper color space management window can help a bit... Oh and I'd like to have CLEAR informations about the video files (color subsampling, quantization and so on). And if it is already in CS5, forgive me for asking this and please teach me how to find it :smile5:

the ability to drop in clips based on it's timecode would be great. Would save a lot of time drooping each clip manually to its place. sure there's plural eyes, but when you don't have reference audio off the camera its useless:-P

Yes a good pro color correction tools would be awesome and is needed. (Colorista 2 does a lot already but having it seamlessly tie into cuda and mercury engine would be great). Also the ability to take advantage of multiple GPU/Cuda cards to improve rendering speed even more....and please the ability to simply right click on the R3d file in the timeline and access the RED settings. Right now we have to "reveal file in project" and then right click on it there and reveal the RED source window. It becomes quite tedious in long form projects like films.

Thanks for listening and enjoy your vacation Dave!

Work around

Work around

Perhaps until Adobe gets the color corrector working you guys can help me with something:

Here's the situation:
I have an edited piece in Premiere.. I need to create TWO masks in a shot in order to color correct two people with different issues. Please give me a very specific Step by Step as to how you would get this into AE, add the masks make the color corrections, and then get back to Premiere with these changes in place.

Or do I have it wrong, and I have to COMPLETE the edit in Premiere and move to AE for final color correction and render from there.

Trying to learn this...

Thanks in advance for the help

Jay

Excellent Post

Jay, do the masks have to be precise roto masks or just general shape (feathered) masks? because you can do that with Colorista2 within premiere.

Just checked out Colorista.. It seems to get me about 50% of the way there.. But from what I can tell, those masks only work for color correction done within Colorista.. this is kind of limiting.. I prefer the masks in AE where I can duplicate the clip, make a mask, and then apply any effect I wish to the mask.

So while I think Colorista is pretty cool.. I'm gonna say I'd prefer a workflow that allows me to work in AE after editing in premiere.

Figured it out

Figured it out

ok I will admit. I can be a bit of an idiot. Yes it's true. All I can say right now is that I FINALLY took the time to learn about Adobe's Dynamic Linking.. And I am using it. All I can say is....

Holy ShIt.

This is better than I could have hoped for.. Amazing.. Simply amazing.

Yes I know you all have known this for years.. But rather than dissing me for being late to the party, lets embrace the fact that I showed up at all.

:smile5:

The only problem with Dynamic Link is, it is only works on shot by shot basis.

Let say if we post conform everything in After Effects, including keyframe, transition, effects all in tact from FCP and we need to have realtime preview in Premiere thru Dynamic Link. It doesnt detect changes by shot by shot basis. So if you have rendered the whole timeline in premiere, go back to After effects and do some changes in certain shots, when you come back to premiere. You have to re-render the whole timeline even the one that you dont touch.

Media Management is something that Adobe need to work on.

Unlink video and audio, only works one clip and at a time. You cant select bunch of clips and unlink it.

I hope Adobe can look into this....

* You can select multiple clips on your timeline in premiere and open them up as one composition in AE.

*Why would you be rendering your entire timeline after every change? why not use ram preview. Maybe I am not understanding you correctly.

This is not good news. This was already one of my biggest annoyances in Premiere Pro in 2003. I changed to FCP, and just having one button unlink the whole timeline was great. Almost never, in my sequences, it's linked. I thought this was a glaring omission that any editor that uses the program for more than a day, would have noticed. It's a bit shocking to read that this still hasn't been adressed with the one-button approach of FCP.

And now I'm thinking of getting back to Premiere after I'm seeing what Apple is doing with FCP X.

Hi,

In the new Premiere CS5.5 you can do this with multiples clips! it's a new feature on 5.5, JUst select all clips and hit unlink and all of them get unlinked...CS5 and below didn't have, but now it's there.

Hope this helps

Dave,
Enjoy your well deserved vacation.

Now you know the Reduser spotlight is on you. Get that rest, when you come back we will get back to pestering you for all things Adobe.

The best way to use dynamic link is to create a new sequence copy and paste from the old sequence the dynamically link eack clip as you wish. its also smart copy any paste your sequence into AE that way you can create proxys for easy playback and monitoring.

I'm sure it helps, but it would be easier to just have one button click and everything on the timeline be unlinked. Because in the Premiere Way, if I read your comment correctly, every time you add something new to the timeline, you will first have to unlink it. While in the FCP way, you just have one button that says that audio and video aren't connected, and then everything adjusts, also new things.

I'll see how the FCP X thing turns out, but if Apple doesn't get it together, I'll take another look at Premiere. Their support here on REDUser is well appreciated and a good thing to know. I'm already set to buy a Scarlet Fixed or Epic-S probably, so the camera choice has been made.

Um,... That's simply not true. I have heavily leveraged Dynmamic Links and when I work on a comp on a rendered sequence only that comp's linked clip turns yellow and needs to be re-rendered.

Are you talking about a nested sequence maybe? It seems to me that when you build a master sequence of sequences that it should be able to leveraged the rendered proxies; I was very disappointed when I found this was not the case. Does a whole nested sequence on a master timeline need to be rerendered for proxies if a contained comp gets modded?
