I'm really excited to announce that we are going full steam ahead with 4KFEST!

What? The 4kFEST is the world's first (as far as we know) high resolution festival showcasing films (shot at 4k or higher) in true 4k glory.
Why? There is so much great high resolution content shot on RED, yet there has been no proper venue to showcase it in 4k.
How? Barco has signed on as our official sponsor so our festival will feature Barco's latest 4k projector. Those who attended Reducation this year got a taste of how amazing Barco's projector is.
When and Where? Date to be announced but we are aiming towards late summer/early fall for our first festival in Los Angeles. We have been confirmed to have a program at the Macao China International Digital Film Festival as well as Slam Dance next year. We are also currently working on having a 4kFEST at IBC this year as well.
Requirements? Since the emphasis of our festival is high resolution, to be eligible for our festival, all content must have been shot at 4K or higher. Sorry no VDSLR shot in 1080p mode (unless in timelapse 4k + size stills mode OK), no F3 nor Alexa content accepted.
What is in it for you? Submit a film and compete for prizes. Grand prize winners will be announced at Slam Dance. If selected for the final rounds, you get to see your projected in 4k!
Who are the judges? Our judges panel is growing.. currently we have superstars Dean Devlin, David Mullen and Mark L. Pederson.
Sponsors: Barco, Assimilate and Element Technica have signed on board..with many more to be announced.

Last but not least, Ted is totally into what we are doing. Check out my video with Ted and Dean Devlin below.

For more information follow us on twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/4KFEST, visit our site http://www.4kfest.com and check out the videos below. if you have any questions feel free to contact us at: info@4kfest.com

We are looking forward to all of your submissions. =)

I'm hoping to drop a nice new video for this fest. I'd love to see my stuff at 4K.

I'm really proud of these guys and what they've accomplished so far with the 4kFest project. This group and many others around the world really grasp what we've been talking about and demonstrating every day… that 1080p is just not good enough for Cinema level production and exhibition…

We see the magic of 4k projection come to life every day in our theater at RED Studios Hollywood, with projects shot on RED and now EPIC cameras, and I often comment on how great it would be if we could get more people to see what we are seeing here on the big screen… we have events every few months so large crowds can see how visually stunning and immersive 4k is, but that's still not nearly enough.

Now with this 4k Film Festival - many more people can see and learn about the power and value of 4k.. good on these guys for making it happen.

As Tonaci said in his post - I'm totally into this concept and want to support them in any way I can.

and super cool that you have Dean Devlin, David Mullen and Mark Pederson to be judges for the festival… they know their 4k better than anyone on the planet… perfect choices.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes, and if I'm nice to these guys, maybe they will let me speak at one of their upcoming festivals! and show some EPIC footage on the Barco 4k again like we did at our REDucation class last week!

Why that?
Pat

Hi Patrick, what sets this festival apart from others is that the footage must stay at 4k resolution from moment of capture all the way to screening. The Sony F3 and ARRI Alexa capture at lower than 4k rez so they don't qualify.

As soon as RED Ray is out we will definitely be using it! Until that time we are accepting 4k DPX sequences. We are working with Assimilate and their Scratch program to help filmmakers who don't have the resources to remaster their 1080 versions into 4k.
