Free "EPIC-M" HDRx R3D File • (6-Stops) Indoor/Outdoor on Duclos 11-16 Lens (386MB)

New Link coming soon. DropBox pulled the first one. Someone has offered to host another. This one will be +4 with slower pan.

New Thread:

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread...ops)-Indoor-Fixed-on-Duclos-11-16-Lens-(399MB)

EDIT:
P.S. 6 Stops is clearly TOO MUCH for such a QUICK pan across indoors and outdoors. I just wanted to give everyone the extreme to play with.

I can shoot another clip with fewer stops and am open to suggestions on the content/scene. I'll try something besides DropBox next time.

Thanks!

(remember: I'm just asking, no offense)
Am I right, that the X-track is captured just a bit before the A-track?(I'm looking at the door, and the column)
Or it's just the difference between different shutter speeds/motion blurs?

Thanks for the sample, Michael.

Loaded it into RCX build 470 (latest build as of today), but there's a problem.
When I enable the X channel, it adds ghosting to the footage.
Doesn't seem very usable...at least not in this sample.

Read Jim's quote in the following thread:

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?59275-HDRx-compensation-setting-amp-motion-control

As of today postproduction tools HDRx with more than 3stop should not be used if the camera or object will have heavy motion.

New Resolve V8 (and other soft) could emprove the way we combine A and X track.

I don't know if it would be possible for the EPIC to catch the X track and make the read out WHILE catching the A track with the normal shutter speed. The advantage would be that both images are taken within the same time span.

More testing to come like using 270 shutter angle for the A track -> 135 for the X track @ 1stop... (are more than 180 angles possible when using HDRX?)

If someone could reupload it on another site, would be great.

Man, dropbox doesn't give you much in the way of traffic, does it... Bummer! Thanks though Michael.

Thought I could get hold of it in time, would've uploaded it to our FTP site and people could've downloaded from there, not a massive crazy bandwidth but certainly would've loved to keep this stuff flowing

Michael, we can host on my site. PM me so we can set it up.

Posting random and extreme case footage without guidance or explanation of how to work with it doesn't serve this community well. It also forces us to step in and moderate.

1. This is what HDRx looks like with a fast pan and +6. The still looks unacceptable but the motion likely looks fine. The combination of sharp/blur plays well.

2. This shot did not need +6. If shot at +3 the motion would look "more normal".

3. Without Graeme's new "Magic HDRx tools"... the exploration of what to do with this clip is limited... and false conclusions drawn, then communicated, then stamped as fact (like a RED ONE over-heats).

4. We will post a ton of R3Ds with HDRx as soon as Graeme's magic is ready to release. There is a reason why we have waited.

Enthusiasm is a great thing... HDRx is a great tool. I'm just not sure this is how HDRx should be introduced to the industry.

Sorry for being so blunt.

Thanks Jim for this statement.

As I'll be shooting some HDRx next week I would like to know what could be "the true conclusions" in the future?...

Are there any gide lines of what best works in HDRx, like in the old days when shooting R3D on Mysterium M = take the sensor @ 5000k 320->500asa?

As we still don't know anything of Graeme's Magic HDRx Tool, it would be good not to be limited by our assumptions based "on false conclusions".

Thanks

Patrick

Hi Jim,

The EPIC-M is... well... EPIC. Everyone knows that. HDRx is amazing and everyone knows that. People just want to see some raw R3D footage shot in less than perfect conditions using the maximum 6-stops HDRx. I will make sure to preface any such footage I post with disclaimers and apologies but I think it's great for the community to get their hands on the types of clips they will likely be shooting the first day they get their EPIC, not clips shot by top cinematographers on $25,000 lenses in optimal scenarios and appropriate HDRx settings.

I think we'll all learn from this and I honestly don't believe it will hurt EPIC's reputation. If you tell me to cease posting HDRx footage. I will stop of course out of respect for you. However, I would prefer guidance on what and how to shoot HDRx optimally so that I and others can learn from my mistakes and seeing those mistakes for themselves in RedCineX. In the end, this early beta process will ultimately result in better HDRx footage being shot when it matters.

Uploading another similar clip soon at +4 with a slower pan. Unless you would prefer to see it first before I post the link.

Sincerely,

Michael Zaletel
