  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Paris, France / Stolen Red Pro Prime

A l'enlèvement :

Thanks everyone for all the kind words.

:hat:

Great news Bérenger, hope this will keep some other people from pulling these nasty moves on rental houses...

Any details you might want to share as how you were able to trace them back with PhotoCineRent? Could be of some value in case it happens to other people.

Thanks,

Actually, I don't know anything except he got busted. Matthieu Misiraca was talking to Albrecht from Photocinrent, and as he was stolen by the same guy a few weeks later, wa contacted each other at the time.

I assume the guy give fake paper to Photocinerent, but this time the real owner made a declaration soon enough to prevent the theft, moreover everyone was aware a guy like him may appear.

I'm eargerly waiting for my update with the police. :)

Bérenger, I know it comes with a good intention of warning Red owners, but publishing a picture of someone suspected of a crime, is illegal here in France. I can't talk for the USA though. You may run into problems with this person. Sending the picture through your private network would be better, even so it should be done carefully.

Some random person can send me the photo of this scumbag. I will be happy to post it.

Curran, I do recommend not to do it. I s illegal here in the US as well in the majority of the occidental countries. I have a similar problem a decade ago. I got stolen equipment we identified the thief and we publish a picture on internet with a reward. A couple of months later and the theft made charges against me and I needed to go to court even there was several witnesses that testify he took the equipment......the history is longer, but this will give you a small picture of the issue publishing a picture and making charges on internet (or any public media) before a trial in court. Stupid but true.

Actually, no. This is the very difference between a dictatorship and a democratic, civil society ensuring a fair trial. You are innocent until proven. And this is an universal, irrevocable right, and applies to former IMF chefs as well as stupid, thieving scumbags.

Yes, it may seem annoying and unfair, but much better than any alternative I can think of.

This is illegal? Doesn't the news do this all the time? I though it was only underage people you couldn't post pictures of, and even then I thought it was more a guideline than a rule. I'm not a lawyer, and I'm usually wrong about everything.

Yes Brad, in France it's illegal. The news aren't allowed to do it here. And I agree with Martin ;-)

Back to the subject : I still think that the best way of renting safely your Red is to come with your gear on the shooting whenever possible ;-) When things like that happen, it's really a disaster because it may discourage Red owners to rent out their gear to nice and honest fellows. This kind of clients exist too ;-)
