I know this has been talked about before.. but the movie that made me want to make movies was BACK TO THE FUTURE...

and yesterday I showed up to set.. walked into the production trailer, no one was in there.. but in comes CHRISTOPHER LLOYD (DOC BROWN)

I work with tons of celebrities... dont care about any of them.. but I was SUPER stoked to see DOC BROWN.. it was a 360 point for me..

2001, Tarkovsky and Fassbinder films. And some 70's French films. But there are many others. In animation, it was Nick Park's Creature Comforts that blew me away and inspired me to start with clay animation using a webcam.

Tough to say. I know what got me into VFX but it wasn't a movie. But a movie got me serious about VFX. And VFX led me to the live action end of the spectrum.

1997:
Total Annihilation -> Interest in learning 3D modeling to make custom units. Which led me to...
Mech Warrior 2 -> Interest in 3D animation and broader story telling. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X3GD0UnBCk Ha! Haven't watched that in about 12 years! Oh memories.... :P) Which led me to...
Star Wars Special Edition -> 3D Animation for film. (Specifically this shot: http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/swfa/xwings.jpg) Which led me to...
1998:
"Cooking with Pharoah" -> A silly video I made for a school class that taught me that I didn't really enjoy the monotony and soul crushing slowness of VFX I just wanted to make movies and animation had been the only outlet I knew to affordably create the sorts of films that interested me. Which led me to...
2001:
Fellowship of the Ring -> Which pushed me to seriously want to tell a story like that.

Age 7 - I had a little music box with the Godfather theme and begged my dad to let me watch it. He did, and I was in love. Still think pt1 is one of the 5-10 best films of all time - not sure if there's ever been better acting from top to bottom than that ....

I tihnk "RAN" by kurosawa was the real turningpoint.

Clockwork Orange

Betty Blue

Stranger than paradise

The Wall

Short Cuts

Magnolia

Blue Velvet

Goldrush (Chaplin), Modern Times and The Kid

Brazil

TV, I think Holocaust and Roots.

But I have always been into music and theatre, too

Stravinskij and Carl Orff
Pink Floyd and Zeppelin
Penderecki and The Police
Coltrane. Late and wild.

Brecht.
I worked with Psykosis by Sarah Kane. Which I loved.
A hilarious "all family" version of Hamlet by Footsbarn theatre
The accidential death of an anarchist by Dario Fo (TV-Theatre)

I see I have happened to like odd stuff.

Still do. Even though I enjoy the blockbusters without hesitation

Hm.
Studied music.
Worked with theatre, film and music.

I may admittedly be into art as a lifelong love-affair...

Actually most of the geekery comes from love for art.

It might sound like I am being silly, but it was the TV show The Three Stooges. I was about 6 years old. :)

That is my first recollection of consciously wanting to do this. A lot of the films mentioned here drove it home.

The Fellowship of the Ring 2001 - Jesper 14, thinking "Wow you can actually write awsome stuff like this"

Tim Burton's "Batman", and pretty much all Ridley Scott and Darren Aronofsky films...

Psycho.

Apocalypse now.

The Fisher King.

Manhattan.

Fight Club.

The Great Dictator.

There are a few more but that's it for now :)

Star wars for sure. I was only 5 or 6 and it is one of my earliest memories of my childhood, and then as I got older and watched the rest of the series all I wanted to do was figure out how they did it.
I really liked beverly hills cop also, it was always fun going to the movies as a pre teen and watching the warm glow of the projector hit the silver screen and walking away really entertained and feeling happy.

Thats when I originally wanted to work with cameras and editing.

I started off my career as a broadcast engineer repairing all sorts of video cameras, and decks. I even made my own camera out of spare parts. But I really wanted to film and edit stuff. Thats
when I changed my life and went to film school and started shooting weddings, functions anything.

Now that is my full time career.. ( now its TV commercials, Music videos etc! not wedding videos anymore!!!) Thanks to Steven Spielberg and Eddie Murphy!
