  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Helicopter Engine Fails at 2000 ft on Red Aerial shoot, and the camera is rolling.

What were you in?
I hope not some piston driven helicopter. Odd for a turbine to turn off mid flight..... but does happen... but very rare.
Glad you got through it. Not many pilots like to go into an Auto for real... I know I don't.
It was a hiller piston driven, no turbins available at the location. Funny thing, there where no microphones plugged in to the camera but you can still hear the crash.....

Wow... glad you and the crew are all still with us... I was forwarded this from some of the team at RED, as I was up shooting some EPIC 3D Air to Air footage just yesterday with the Spacecam ball (one of the most exhilarating and terrifying experiences of my life by the way :-) - and they were worried this was us that had to auto-rotate. Amazing machines helicopters... that you can get down with an engine failure just on the continued movement of those spinning chopper blades. Looking like the landing bounce was pretty intense... what did the last 100 feet down feel like when you don't have the air currents to keep you afloat?

Good Karma pays off.

Holy shit, you are one lucky SOB. Unbelievable that everyone is ok.

And Ted's not kidding...

there was not too much time to think about it the last 100 feet down... other than that field looks nice and flat and soft... this might hurt... are those power lines?
Spacecam AND Epic AND your helicopter didn't fall out of the sky.... I envy you...
