  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Test Footage from Scarlet soon?

My own fascination with Scarlet Fixed is the quality of the lens. I have some medium quality Canon glass for 35mm which I could use on an Epic-S, but a) it is definitely not cine quality and I suspect/hope the Scarlet lens will be much better, and b) the Epic-S is expected to command a much higher price tag. Plus, I am really not all that confident that most of the 35mm stills glass is really going to be good enough on the Epics.

To me, the 2/3" sensor is a great size for versatility and, coupled with a high quality lens, a feature set that is only rivaled by the Epic, shooting REDCode RAW at 3K, up to 150 fps or more, and a likely price tag that nothing else even comes close to, what's not to like? Eventually, I'd love to add an Epic to my arsenal but, for nearly everything I shoot, Scarlet Fixed will do very nicely!

It shouldn't be the hard to find someone capable of getting the most out of the Fixed Scarlet. However there must be a good reason for Red to wait. Maybe they don't want to spill the beans while they don't know how the production schedule is looking.

This is what im guessing. I am just hoping its not the case, and they do soon release something. I was hoping for official specifications at NAB, but I see this is not going to happen. Maybe a short demo can happen though :)

If you aren't a freak about super shallow depth of field and/or 5K resolution, you will be more than impressed with the Scarlet's performance. I know I am. As it stands now, I'd rather shoot Scarlet over the EPIC...

Personally, I'm a freak about the framerates more than anything else. The fact that the Scarlet should be able to hit 120...possibly 150 (if that is still a possible option, I don't even know anymore) and seems so relatively simple to use for a one man shoot...I'm really looking forward to it. I originally wanted the interchangeable, but the Fixed has definitely grown on me over time, RED has put a lot of sweetness into this baby. I know Jim has said in the past that people who complain about wanting their cameras can buy/rent something else in the meantime if it has to be done...I'm not complaining and I understand all the technical issues and other tragedies that have plagued the release of this product, but I am biding my time and saving my money (and stories) for the time I can make the best possible product with all resources available...and that doesn't impede my desire for a Scarlet whatsoever....or any RED product, really http://reduser.net/forum/images/icons/icon6.png WANT!

+1

Yes, I am back on the bandwagon. :)

Okay! So I just found this interview - with spanish dubbing! Besides getting a really long look at the SCARLET - which is always nice - there's some footage about 6:50 min into the clip. Can someone please confirm whether or not this footage is in fact from the SCARLET(or EPIC) or not? My feeling though, is that it's a bunch of totally random clips just thrown in there for some unknown reason...??

EDIT: Sorry. The footage in the above clip is in fact from the EPIC: http://vimeo.com/23000002

I can not be positive, but the boat shot could be epic, because the clip proceeding it I think is epic, because I think I have seen that posted somewhere before. But the boat i cannot tell for sure.

While we wait... since we have nothing better to do... care to elaborate?

the Scarlet WITH its lens weighs lighter (according to the feel, as I haven't officially weighed it) than an Epic WITHOUT a lens. The formfactor is no beautifully miniature. And then, if you want to take off the Sidehandle, it feels like it immediately becomes almost 50% smaller.

I assume we don't see much Scarlet footage (no raw) and no Scarlet raw HDRx for a reason. Scarlet is still in a prototype stage.

Can anybody find point to these clips without the Spanish overdub? I can't seem to find them via Google or Vimeo.

Wouldn't Scarlet footage look exactly like EPIC? We just need a 3K EPIC crop to know what Scarlet looks like.
