  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic x soon?

I understand what you're saying Mike ... but not quite an apples-to-apples comparison there. What you get in Stage 3 is NOT equal to what comes in an M package -- as it was announced before, it doesn't have the side handle, SSD module, SSD media, or Bomb EVF. That's probably about $12-15,000 in extras to equal an M package. So really, it's more like Red One + $23-25,000. With Epic-M being $58,000, the real difference is more like $13,000-18,000 (forgive me if my math sucks, these are all very quick mental estimates.)

I'm morally certain every Stage will come with an SSD module; it hasn't been officially announced, but I no longer believe RED will want anyone using CF on EPIC. SSD is the future, if you must use CF there is/will be a CF-SSD adaptor. I don't think there will ever be a CF module released for EPIC.

The side handle... that's $900 or so I think. The Bomb $3200...

The media, yes... 4 x 128GB, that's around $7000. So you're not far wrong on the numbers, $11k-12k I would call it.

All your other points make perfect sense.

Doesn't help me any, I don't NEED a Bomb, I can't afford that much storage all at once. And if I told my accountant I wanted to drop $60k on an M she would divorce me and I'd have to go buy a used betacam or something.

Oh... wait... she has more money than I do! Maybe I could make a business case for divorce...

Hey Mike, if you decide to follow through on that plan, you better hope she doesn't read Reduser!!

But if you do, can I have her number; all I want is a Scarlet Fixed! :tongue_smilie:

Hilarious post Mike, and trust me I'm not even married yet (engaged) and yet I know the feeling :P

Also, a couple more things I forgot about in the M package ... the titanium mount, the 5 inch LCD (original had the 3inch listed), the camera case, and honestly I think the original upgrade package didn't have the SSD module as standard (see below), so the Stage 3 package price could go up a little (all things subject to change). The more I look at it, the more I realize the M is a pretty fantastic deal. Especially when you consider how complete of a package it is .. it's machined ... you get a big head start ... and ... Jim and the gang are eating some cost on the high-priced parts due to the shortage. Gotta love Red, so fair and like everyone I can't wait for the day when the stages begin rolling :)

Net price of $10,500 and comes with: 1x S35 MYSTERIUM-X brain with PL mount, 1x 2.8" LCD, 1x REDMOTE, 1x Side CF Module, 1x Module Adaptor, 1x Base I/O Module, 1x Pro Battery Module, 2x REDVOLT standard batteries, and 1x travel charger. NOTE: Upgrades available for select monitoring options and modules. i.e 1x Base I/O Module can be upgraded to PRO I/O Module by paying price difference. Details as we get closer.

I have been saying for months now.... if you have the funds, order the Epic M right away. Trying to save ten grand by waiting for the X is not a wise move, IMO. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Well, at least I've tried. They aren't selling...yet. :)

I hope we will all be very surprised by the out put of Epic X's when the parts problem is resolved.
I don't know but I have this feeling that there is a large number of Epic's with our names/serial/order numbers on them just waiting for these parts and when the parts problem is finally resolved we will all be scrambling to get to the bank for our money to pay for our new cameras..... Like Christmas morning running down the stairs to see what is under the tree.

Aahhhhh... an optimist. You must be new here.

:smile:Just joking...I actually kinda agree with you.

If it takes a few months longer for the Epic-X to ship, that's okay with me. I'd be content if they ship in September/October.

Hi,
I am trying to calculate the difference between EPI-M and EPIC-X (correct me if I am wrong)

EPIC-M EPIC-X
------- -------

EPIC-M Brain with titanium PL mount (machined) : EPIC-X Brain upgrade price(MXED CAMERA) USD18250=00
Bomb EVF : BOMB EVF USD 3200=00
5" Touchscreen LCD (machined) : 5" Touchscreen LCd included in upgrade
DSMC Side Handle (machined) : DSMC Side Handle (Machined)(Approx) USD 750=00
DSMC Side SSD Module (machined) : DSMC Side SSD Module USD 1500=00
REDmote (machined) : REDmote included in upgrade
4x 128GB SSD cards : 4x126GB SSD cards USD 7200=00
4x REDVolt batteries and travel charger : Two extra REDvolt batteries and charges USD 1200=00
Custom laser-cut foam EPIC Pelican 1510 case : Case USD 600=00
2 years of warranty coverage :1 Year extra warranty (Approx value) USD 5000=00

TOTAL USD58000=00 USD 37700=00

So approximately the difference is around USD20,000/. How it is coming to ten grands...Am I missing something.

Thks
Harcharan

But from what I understand a current Epic M package is currently pretty much shipping as an Epic-M Brain with Titanium PL mount, a side SSD module, SSD cards, and a 5" Touchsreen monitor. No Bomb EVF, no side handle, no redmote, no redvolt batts...
So, when will the missing parts ship?

Looking at what's happened with the EVF, SSDs, Redmotes, and batteries, I/O module, etc I doubt we will see an Epic-X in the next 6 months. If they do manage to get them out, I think it will only be a few hundred, not full ramp. The supply chain at RED has me very worried about real world chances to get an Epic. And Scarlet is well into 2012 before we see it. Please don't hate me, It's just my observation. I have no knowledge of anything, other than missed ship dates.

That is a point...
A camera would be more technical to make but RED has said they are 98% a go with only that 2% in parts waiting...I don't think they'd mess about with stats and I don't think Jim wants to disappoint anymore...
His always been clear and they have been clear about EVFs, SSDs, REDmotes and all delayed
At the same time that stuffs machined (the REDmotes) so it probably is back logged for them right now...since they've got so many orders of M and they can only spit so much out...whilst the REDmotes with the X's would be obviously different right? Non-machined so the line would be different...
the issue probably will come with upgrades to Pro Modules and Pro REDMote or ordering SSDs and EVFs at the time of X's...
Other thing is that the best way to gauge all this is June.
EVF and SSDs...not sure but I guess they'll be able to ramp up enough hopefully by shipping? Given that's hoping and things around here are subject to change...

Guess its a matter of wait and see... personally I'm leaning on getting my EPIC 6614 sometime in September to October...
