  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Clarification...

thanks for the info.
is ssd and Evf also related to japan?
or will this be no problem once epic x is ready?

This would be nice to know. It's not much good having a camera without media.

Thanks, Jim and team.

Any ETA of when we'll get a overview of what is included in the Stage 2 package? Are you open for suggestions? (i.e. I'd happily trade in the IO Module for media.)

Jim,
I'd like to 2nd this request. I'm a little amazed that it's taken this long to get a description of the package. Can you give it to us, and if not, can you explain the delay for getting it out so that I can be on board with this process and stop bugging you about it?

Jay

Whatever is decided on the Stage 2 and Stage 3 package, I hope one option is to just stay with the original package.

+1

I'm not as much interested in the Side Handle and I want to buy media separately. The only change should be the Side SSD module.

I'd say you are not late until another company brings out a camera with the abilities Scarlet will have for the same price. Until then you are in time! ;)

Are the lens components simply unavailable or are they not meeting quality control parameters?

I think the part where Jim said they are having to pay up for "individual parts and pieces at extraordinary prices" is the explanation of why they can hand-craft -M cams currently, but need to wait on mass production until these parts are available again at their originally anticipated pricing....to make the -X packages make sense for RED to begin producing at economies of scale.

Hey Jim reguarding the scarlet you mentioned the following, "Scarlet continues to be an issue due to the fact that lens components from Japan are causing an issue and we aren't quite sure how long it will take to resolve. We will update as we have more info."

So I was wondering perhaps if the lens parts only effect the fixed lens model and if so will this boost up the cine model timeframe? I fully appreciate the cine model has a lot more variables in the design due to the mulititude of lens formats that will want to hook in to it but I was just wondering about this detail.

Waiting patiently and appreciate your efforts! Thanks for the 411 I personally love these updates keep them coming please!

My assumptions are Epic-S (does that stand for slightly less?) Will start around the same time as Epic-X, yes? Neat. time to get 4 jobs.

No. It is scheduled to start after Epic X is completed... at least that is the last word I heard. Could have changed. Sorry, I don't have a link.

We have found alternate sources (as have all of the other major companies) of parts that were exclusively made in Northern Japan. All of us are just waiting and in line for these parts and pieces.

I was thinking that this would be the problem. Not only are the factories down, but all of the alternate suppliers are certainly getting slammed from all sides by everyone who had production in Northern Japan. And they're probably supplying the biggest potential customers first, with everyone else in line. The effects of the disaster in Japan will be felt for a long time, I suspect.

Jim, thanks again for the update.
