I am like many of you, realizing the dependency we have generated over the years on the Japanese to create a camcorder we all want and own.
I am stunned that we all are now waiting for the price of the Scarlet, supposedly an American invention, to be determined by the availability of Japanese parts. I would dump my Sony Camcorder in a minute for an American Camera invented and made in America that actually worked. And I mean made in America, not researched and conceived and tested in America and then shipped off shore for low cost labor to crunch out the parts and assemble the bits so the margin is nicely padded. American Pride is such a hollow phrase these days. I wish and hope that it will apply to the Scarlet
with the original feeling it used to generate.
I think you would be hard pressed to find any complex consumer good completely made in one place any more. There is not just Made in the USA, or Made in Japan, or Made in China anymore (unless you are talking about simple goods.)
Yes, I too would like it if the Scarlet was 100% made in the US, but that is just not reality. It is mostly made here and to me that is better than any other camera (That I can afford) on the market.
If I am not mistaken Jim held out with Oakley Footwear as long reasonablly possible to be manufactured in the US. At some point though, you have to be competive to survive.
