Jim,

Thank you.

Thank you for being foolish enough to build this camera I use. I have never owned a camera that let me make moving pictures as beautiful as this. It is clear that the leap of faith required to lead this project was monumental.

Thank you for being foolish enough to build the Epic in the US. In a time when many people tell us that manufacturing in the US cannot be competitive, I am proud to know that the next camera I own will be built in the US, and will be, at least for a moment, the best motion picture camera in the world. I say this with no disrespect for any other country in the world, but with genuine pride in this accomplishment. As someone who lives in a state where most of the manufacturing has disappeared, it makes me happy to see this happen. It would give me great joy, some day, to visit Red's manufacturing facility.

Thank you for the heartfelt concern you have voiced for the people of Japan at a time when your business was being put in a terrible position by the effects of Japan's disasters. It is humbling to read your words in light of what these events have meant to Red's ability to deliver its products. It is a lesson in perspective for all of us.

Thank you for being foolish enough to keep your passion for cameras and for the idea of making obsolescence obsolete central to your business. I'm sure that MBAs have counseled you to do otherwise, but they would not have - they could not have built these cameras that have, in a small way, changed the world.

Thank you for the Dragon announcement. I could not have hoped that a camera as capable as the Epic would have a path to an even better level of imaging. It reaffirms all of the values I have come to associate with Red - the passion at the heart of the business.

Finally, thank you for making all of this accessible to those of us who are your customers - for letting us feel like we are a part of this company. In thirty years of working with cameras, I have never felt I could speak to the people who made those cameras and be heard if I had something worth saying. Until now.

Thank you. That's really all I have to say.

Group hug :grouphug:

Thanks Jim

Agreed, Jim and the team have worked incredibly hard even with all the set backs and so on they carry forward, it's really amazing to see stuff from the start till now and how far everything has come, its visible from the difference in size between the R1 and Epic but also its clear how much people appreciate things even more now...so big thanks for all the hard work and dealing with everything that gets thrown at you guys...its truly amazing.

I agree, especially about the manufacturing. I hope that RED sets the trend for companies everywhere keeping their manufacturing in their own country. As well as providing jobs and improving your country's GDP, it can also saves on a lot of air transport, which reduces the environmental impact of the product.

Ah, good to find a thread to say thank you. Fist to Jim and then to the team for all the hard work they do to make this possible. (And also to tons of people on this amazing forum, for sharing their knowledge and experience, its priceless.)

Well Said David, my Bad and rusty English would never express those words.
Thanks Brotha.
Thanks JJ and Squad.
Cheers!!

Agreed. You are a rare individual. Thank you for having the courage to do it right against all odds and advice. The RED MX I have continually amazes me. And I have shot Panavision 35 for 30 years. And I love my Oakley sunglasses too.

+1

Thank you Jim and RED TEAM for everything you have done so far, and that which is yet to come! "non illegitimi carborundum est"

I've always been too dumb to know what not to do... one of my many personality disorders.

The RED team are really the ones that need the kudos. It is hard to describe how may have put their entire being into the vision. This whole thing doesn't work without them.

Jim thanks for having the vision, and the whole RED team for all the hard work.

Jim, I'm sure it is true that the RED team deserve kudos. And I freely give them. I have no illusions how much it has taken to make all this possible.

But I am also sure that everything that RED is depends on you, the founder. You have chosen the people who make up the RED team, and you have created a place where they can, as you say, "put their being into the vision." That is a rare thing, and one that should be celebrated. I don't imagine you have done this alone. Far from it. But I am equally sure that the group of people who surround you would never have been able to create RED without your vision at its center.

Thank you for making that happen.

How about we withhold all celebration until we have shipped everyone their EPIC and/or Scarlet?

Jim
