Jim,
Thank you.
Thank you for being foolish enough to build this camera I use. I have never owned a camera that let me make moving pictures as beautiful as this. It is clear that the leap of faith required to lead this project was monumental.
Thank you for being foolish enough to build the Epic in the US. In a time when many people tell us that manufacturing in the US cannot be competitive, I am proud to know that the next camera I own will be built in the US, and will be, at least for a moment, the best motion picture camera in the world. I say this with no disrespect for any other country in the world, but with genuine pride in this accomplishment. As someone who lives in a state where most of the manufacturing has disappeared, it makes me happy to see this happen. It would give me great joy, some day, to visit Red's manufacturing facility.
Thank you for the heartfelt concern you have voiced for the people of Japan at a time when your business was being put in a terrible position by the effects of Japan's disasters. It is humbling to read your words in light of what these events have meant to Red's ability to deliver its products. It is a lesson in perspective for all of us.
Thank you for being foolish enough to keep your passion for cameras and for the idea of making obsolescence obsolete central to your business. I'm sure that MBAs have counseled you to do otherwise, but they would not have - they could not have built these cameras that have, in a small way, changed the world.
Thank you for the Dragon announcement. I could not have hoped that a camera as capable as the Epic would have a path to an even better level of imaging. It reaffirms all of the values I have come to associate with Red - the passion at the heart of the business.
Finally, thank you for making all of this accessible to those of us who are your customers - for letting us feel like we are a part of this company. In thirty years of working with cameras, I have never felt I could speak to the people who made those cameras and be heard if I had something worth saying. Until now.
Thank you. That's really all I have to say.
Thank you.
