  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic-XXX > NAB 2011

I guess some people missed the Jim's posting in the "Bad News" thread. 18 parts out of 18,000 for Epic are coming from Tohoku Japan. The parts needed to build Epic-M, RED has them in stock. But in order to start conducting the mass production for Epic-X, RED needs to have those parts come in from Japan. Wether RED can get those parts from someplace else, we haven't heard from Jim yet.

Sure, but the chain never filled up again.... I'm not in the position of having to try and source the parts and components needed, but my point is that it was already hard to source parts and the lead times on parts were already very long before the Japanese tsunami occurred. I have friends who run other electronics based businesses and they're in similar situations.

So when do You think You will have all parts for Epic and Scarlet Graeme to start real production of both cameras ?
 
RED people are actively trying to source the parts we need. That's all I know.

I heard from a little bird that a large franchise Feature just ordered a wack-load of Epics and need them ASAP. So that will likely slide all of us waiting for ours back in the Queue a bit. Could just be a crazy rumour though? I guess we will see.

Finner just lost his spot for spreading rumors.. but all the rest of you are ok :)
 
The electronic parts are the same. Only the body is different. And I don't think that the X body is made in Japan...

I don't understand the mix some make about why it should be possible to build M but not X due to Japan?

Because parts for EPIC-M that are already in stock cost more (because they were ordered in small quantities) than the parts for EPIC-X RED ordered in larger quantity?

Thanks Graeme. It sounds like a very difficult situation. If Red really does get the mass of Epic-X's out by the end of summer, I will be impressed.
 
I think a lot of people forget the other parts besides what we think of as typical electronics or a metal body:

Epoxies
Rubber gaskets
High strength plastics, etc.
Glass (Olpf?)

Personally I can wait, red MX Lets me
Get jobs done now so I can pay for epic and accessories without leveraging my credit too hard!

I don't know, Finner...Drunk Freddie gave me a bad lead on some roulette numbers to play, said it was a lock. Good thing Red has my Epic deposit so I couldn't lose on the casino floor!
