  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW Final Cut to be Announced at NAB?

And..... anti-climax... Wasn't everyone predicting today to be the day of the announcement?

I suspect you might be right. I'm really surprised though that no other info has leaked about this event and the "special guest presentation" of "a surprise sneak peek at something very special - you really do not want to miss this one".

Pretty much has to wait for Lion. Snow Leopard hasn't got a 64-bit Obj-C media API with a feature set rich enough to support FCP. If this is the major rewrite people have been anticipating (and it seems very unlikely it isn't), it requires such a thing.

(I suppose it's technically conceivable Apple could have back-ported Lion's AVFoundation to Snow Leopard and packaged it with a new Final Cut, but Apple tends not to back-port APIs.)

I agree with you, I think that they make an exception in this case though.

Snow Leopard is VERY capable. Have you seen what Resolve is doing with OpenCL on OS X now? A backport of the Lion features FCP needs to run might not be so hard, assuming its required. I seriously doubt FCP will simply not run on Snow Leopard though.

I am also certain that some features will work better, or exclusively, on Lion.
 
Secretly, I'm smiling right now and only Dan Berube from FCPUG would understand why. :-)
 
Guess it's not secret if you post it, Steve. Ha ha. You have a couple hour headstart on us. Hopefully we'll all be smiling.

Given Jim's statement about an "announcement" that has to wait...I'm assuming we're going to be very happy with the RED/Apple work flow. They are both similar with their emphasis on forward moving innovation, that it's about time they worked together more. I hope so, anyways.

Hoping the pixelcorps streaming will hold up.

The Live RC Podcast was unwatchable for me here. I don't know if it's the same all around, or just my #%&$ connection here. That was through the teradek page stream though.

When it did play the audio was super low, and extremely tinny, making it a no-go.
 
64-bit, Cocoa, OpenCL, new UI. Fully color managed, floating point linear processing, resolution independent, background rendering, even background ingesting. Facial recognition, shot detection that can tell wides from closeups. Automatic audio cleanup and shot stabilization that starts during ingest. Attach keywords to a specific time range within a clip. Seems like there's a lot of emphasis on tagging and organization. And a bunch of new timeline features. Automatic sync (like PluralEyes).

Shipping in June. $299 though App Store. (They cut the price of the full version to the upgrade price, same as when they put Aperture in the App Store.)

Been watching the a Live Video Podcast. Looks more like iMOVIE X than a new Final Cut Pro. All the HYPE is really that, HYPE. Sorry APPLE, end of the Road for you guys, and if it takes another 6 years for an update??? Then we are surely using AVID and Adobe Premiere from now on. DANG!! I am disappointed!!
