why names like this (BOMB evf)? it's distasteful. some aspects of red opens the door to the competitors. a little more subtlety would be great.

the elegance of Bayern culture and engineering does not need to be mentioned.

i see myself as an upcoming epic customer, but the red dots inside the rails on the clutch and the name BOMB-evf has me looking at other options.

btw: this is the complaint department, right? :p

Sorry Jon,

but I happen to respectfully disagree with you as I love the Red dots in the Black CF rods.

As far as the name "BOMB" I can understand you as my self been Italian, I didn't get at first too why of this name choice,
but it is an English sleng that refers to something totally great, as explained by Billy.

If your worries are Airport Security related, fear not, we have been traveling across the USA with it, and after 8 Airports, including the strictness of Washington DC,
its all good, no one cares.

To be honest, they won't be changing anything that you're unhappy with in your post, so you'll have to decide whether you can deal with it or shop elsewhere. Just the nature of Red. It'd be like asking Apple to stop making stuff so "sleek."

Ketch, I guess the dots are a matter of taste, and I could always replace the rods :)

Jonathan, maybe you are right, but even though most of what Red does looks very "teminatorish" - it's possible to love the look, for instance the clutch looks awesome, but as Ketch wrote (also being an European) the name BOMB is hard to swallow on a unit to make art. It's actually really hard to accept, even though it's a slang. I really find it troublesome, sorry, but I really do... and I'm sure I'm not the only one, most of the people I know in the scene will turn their back on the product offerings by Red just because of that name.

t? :p

I don't think your looking at cameras in the right wat to be honest.
If cosmetics are putting you off buying a camera then your priorities are a million miles awy from the vast majority of us.

Currently the options are: BombEvf, a competitor's product at a higher price and lower quality, or the former plus black gaffertape.

I'll go for the first option.

I also believe that when first in use, you won't be thinking much about the name.

condemning a product just because of a name? if you applied that to everything in life it would be very hard to get anything done. Why not focus on things that actually matter and can change.

If there were other companies making the same level gear for the same price I could understand your moving on based on these points, but considering the situation it's just plain not a smart stance. Now if you are talking about just the clutch and the evf, fine (due to a name and ... dots) but if you are saying you will not buy any of their products because of this well then I think that is just ludicrous.

To each their own! (though there is always tape!)

When I am going through airport security, and my gear is being checked, I like to tell the TSA ...

"No matter how hard I have tried, I still have not been able to get my hands on a Bomb."

I knew someone who, although she really liked it, wouldn't buy a Ford Probe because of the name.

And.. I knew someone who did buy a Marzocchi Bomber because he liked the name... and what it did.

hmm, actually i guess - and this is only my guess, a lot of people will choose Arri or Red based on culture and aesthetics... european style - versus american style. i'm actually quite thrilled by the look of red after getting used to it, but i can't see people using something called a BOMB to do those sensible little art pieces in the european cinema scene. ;)

anyways, this is the complaint department - and hope you don't take me _too_ seriously, although i'm not completely joking either.
