Yesterday was the deadline for submissions for the 2011 32nd Annual News & Doc Emmys for programs aired in 2010.
Nominees are announced in July.

The Golden Jellyfish "as aired" 7 min segment from National Geographic's Great Migrations was submitted in the CRAFT category for Cinematography: Nature Documentary. A tough category to say the least given the talent pool. Tougher yet when some guys get 7 figure budgets and 2 years in the field. We had $125K, 10 days, and three RED ONEs (and a few other toys).

Here is the link to the 7 min clip sumitted for consideration.
This segment was most definitely Shot On RED.

When I laid down my first $1,000 at RED I thought it was a long shot.
Five years later, the RED ONE has changed the way I think fundamentally about making underwater films.
Our ability to shoot, playback, and grade while living in the jungle islands of Palau were an invaluable new digital tool for us.

The RED Team continues to amaze me with their support, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
Golden Jellies, win, lose or draw, was a team effort that yielded incredible results.

Thank You RED.

Ken

Twas a long night to be had under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the wild, the wavelets lapping at the fragile limestone edges of these mushroom shaped rocks, the diluted yet indistinguishable muted sounds of someone practicing the lines of some faded Clash rendition, for twas also the battle of the gargantuan karaoke Gods, for whence Friday came about, Thorpe was na'er far behind....

As an Emmy judge this year, I would have judged your submission worthy of an Emmy with a 7 for creativity and a 9 for execution.

That rating would not, if my fellow judges agreed, garner you the win in national competition, but it would garner a win in some regional Emmy competitions.

I have to emphasize that I did not judge your submission, nor do I know any of the people who did judge it

Thank you for the judging breakdown Alex, it is good to know.
A 9 for execution...nice :-)

We are honored to submit our best RED work for cinematography to this year's News & Documentary EMMYs.
My friends and colleagues have some remarkable work entered this year as well.

Play big or stay home...

Judgiung the Emmy's was a good experience for ... well judging things I guess. So I must use my powers for good!

Play big or stay home...

Absolutely! The only way to play.

I'm going to go stay home now. I'll let you know if I get out and make something.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing, guys. Best of luck to you.

Very nice work guys...:-)

As a multiple Emmy Award recipient myself, each year I'm an invited judge for several different national Emmy Award competitions - namely Sports, Daytime, and News & Documentary. The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be judged this year in May and June, and I will be a judge for various categories. By NATAS rules a judge is never allowed to divulge exactly what categories we judged, much less how we judged them - but we are allowed to simply acknowledge that we are an Emmy judge.

I want to give out some big kudos to Mater Thorpe....master of all and jack off of all trades INCLUDING late night karaoke.

Cheers Johnny, hope all is going well with you mate. Will have to catch up sooner rather than later. Bali is off the hook at the moment with surf, been slammed a few times in the waves but the images are super cool. Be well mate, and uhhhh, so long as you're around I will never get to the top of that late night Karaoke leaders table.... :)
