  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BBC Does it Again! - Human Planet

Nice

I didn't post it because of the camera, but for the photography. Thank you though, I did a few searches that didn't turn up the answer.

Beautiful!

Yes, for the Beeb and Discovery, it's still a 720p world. Tape is safe and it looks pretty damn good in the right hands. The Varicam, somehow, is still the go-to camera for docs.

4k broadcast is a LONG was off when networks like these feel they're future-proofing their productions at 720p.

I know, but worth saying that these types of cameras are still used for the vast majority of projects for tv, at least here in europe, and still produce great work.

The BBC do such a good job with these everytime that its not really even suprising to watch those shots anymore... beautiful as they are.

That's the amazing thing. We've gotten used to that level of quality in their productions.

My partner's been working on it for the past few years its a mammoth project and its been received extremely well. Do yourself a favour and buy the Blu-ray.

Like Steve pointed out the majority was shot on Varicam and is still staple for a lot of work. Some of the Phantom shots are amazing too - doing what it does best.

With such high travel, acquisition and crew costs, why wouldn't they have shot 4K?

Trying to understand the business perspective...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there are a few shots from the Human Planet on one of the Red Reels....aerial shots of camels in the desert?
