How about Red gives out 50 right to purchase Epics at the regular price outright to 25 random people and 25 people they pick through some method consisting of people who bring something to the forums. This way, people can hope to buy Epics even though they may not be a previous Red owner at the regular price. Not only will Red not really lose anything by doing this, it wouldn't hurt the already stage 2 or 3 or whatever people as 50 isn't a huge number and wouldn't delay them that much. Furthermore, it may bring up hype and increased involvement and those that did not buy a Red back in the day, will get a chance of hoping to get one sooner than later. Furthermore, if they give out right to purchase Epics to 50 Reduser members, some of them should be for good suggestions such as this one :001_smile:

Some people may not be an early adopter, but may be the life of Reduser! So why not celebrate Reduser by giving Redusers a chance at Epicness? This way we can all be winners like Charlie Sheen!

Well, there are different types of loyalty. Perhaps, those selected could get them after Stage 3.5 but before stage 4 lol.

Frank,
I think I'm in your shoes. I didnt buy a RedOne either. However I know a few guys who did. They really went out on a limb. RED was (and sometimes still is) criticized throughout the film industry. The early adopters are the ones who had to deal with it and stand by what they believed. Out of respect for those people, I think we should all get in line and patiently wait our turn. After all, if no one took a chance on them, you might never have had a chance to get one at all.

Besides... Didn't we all learn "no cuts, no butts, no coconuts" in 3rd grade?
Good luck with your request though ;)

Personally I think posting .r3d footage of Pretty Girls would work...

Thank You.

I'm firmly planted on the terrible idea side for this one. We also have to consider this:
All orders for EPIC-X placed at NAB will be delivered before summer's end.

Jim

Seems to me everyone already has the "right to purchase" an Epic starting at NAB and will receive their camera by the end of this summer.

Does that mean anyone can order at NAB regardless? Do you have to attend to order one lol?

Jeff
Got to agree with you. Although I am a non Red owner right now, I have dine various Red shoots and have the money in the bank for stage 4.

I agree that loyalty should be rewarded to those that jumped inboard and purchased in the early days. I am content to wait my turn.

I would love to see orders being opened up at NAB but also open for those of us that can't make NAB from Europe who have paid jobs on. He's hoping that you can place orders during NAB even though you can't attend - or I'll have to find someone who is going to order for me if thats not the case.

Anyway - I agree with Jeff and the others. Loyalty gets first dibs!

Steve

Same here. New to RED. I suspect quite a few people must also be 'new to RED' even though they've followed its progress, maybe exclusively rented Red, but just couldn't work around the schedule for buying in.

I absolutely agree that those early adopters of the RED One should get their Epics early. But semantically, isn't that is about rewarding faith rather than loyalty?

As Jim has said, Red is no longer a development company, and I think that after Epics are available and their production is solid, then the playing field should level out.

The risk otherwise is that you end up with an inner circle who managed to get in on the ground floor who are always first in line, while the new blood watches from the sidelines.

That situation ends up putting Red in the same position as the establishment it once disrupted. There's nothing worse than a revolution that ends up installing the same administration!

That statement surely only applies to those eligible for Epic-X, i.e. people who bought a RED One prior to the October cut-off date in 2009 and not potential new customers - right?

Put a shit load of cameras into the hands of new users, not just folks who already have a Red. That will bring people here. But hey, bringing new users to the forum is not a concern.

Besides if they were going to work to raise participation in the forums the effort would be better spent bringing in quality contributors not just quantity. Bring in more of David Mullen's ilk. If quantity was the goal, 50 users wouldn't equal shit.

I give you credit though. It's a creative, if not sleazy attempt to jump the line.

Yes, credit where credit's due! But yeah, it's not so much the idea that's the problem it's the motivation cooked up to justify it. There's not a lot to be gained by boosting reduser numbers, and anticipation is really high enough anyway. BUT: tactically it does makes sense when the payoff is right - like putting Epic-Ms in the hands of those blockbusters that are shooting atm. Definitely a smart move.

You were posting while I was editing.... And almost took the words out of my mouth.

Maybe I was too hard on the lad... They should to it! Alienate 7000 existing users to bring in 50 new ones... Great plan!

But only 25 of those would be new to the forums, right? So the actual net benefit is 25 new users, and 25 existing fanboys who are really happy. Hmmm... Nah! Better to make a shit load of new cameras.

No. Applies to all Epic-X orders, even new orders to new customers taken at NAB.

The current plan is to begin shipping EPIC-X Stage 2 before NAB in April, ship all EPIC-X Stages complete before mid July... and all EPIC-X orders taken at NAB (from new customers) by end of summer. EPIC-Ms are currently being made and will continue to be made as people want them.

Any minor delays we have had getting production of EPIC-X started has been supply chain related. We are working through the issues and the team is very focused.

The impressive thing is how many new users with huge credentials REDUser has been getting ever since EPIC-M started getting around to the big boys.
Really great to see such talent here, even if they post little.

Semantically, it would be rewarding faith WITH loyalty. Sounds like a simple "thank you" to me. Plus, they promised those original purchasers that their gear wouldn't be obsolete in 3 years. It would be pretty lame to not give the REDONE purchasers first chance to remain relevant in their industry. To not do so would seem a little like lying to the original purchasers.

Like I said before. I wasn't an original purchaser. I'm willing to wait. That's when the good things come anyways, right? :)
