  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

hmm. backordered

I think this is another reason why Jim doesn't like to respond questions about dates -- leads to wild speculation. When he mentioned "cameras ordered at NAB" I think he meant people who are not part of the "Stage" process at all -- this would be referring to NEW Red customers who happen to be at the show and want to place an order.

And the "before the end of summer" delivery date is consistent with what he has stated for all other Epic-X and S orders that are NOT part of the Stage 2/3 process. I could be wrong, but that's my take ....

Epic-X by definition is for stage 2 & 3 of owners of Red 1 before the October 29th cut off date, is my understanding. These Epic-X cameras are the ones that Jim hopes to deliver before summer's end. I would guess that the ordering at NAB is for stage 3 Epic X's. At any rate, I would guess a similar 5K refundable deposit might be required to get in the line.

Please let RED speak for themselves.

I will try to clear up a few things....

Jim, does that include people who are in stage 4 (non RED ONE owners)?

if im a non red owner, will I be able to order a epic at NAB?

Yes does this mean Scarlet orders at NAB?

Jim said EPIC-X (ie, Stage 2 and 3 for RED ONE owners only), not EPIC or SCARLET. Don't try to assume this has direct bearing on those two products in regards to NAB. Take his post at face value.

If anyone gets an EPIC "X" delivered to them before me just because they ordered at NAB I'd be a very noisy pissed off little camper.
...

So if Jim says you can line jump and order "X" from NAB and have it delivered in the next 3 months. Jez .. so help me...
Backorders first please. Loyalty remember. Early RED believers up front.

Again, face value. Where does Jim say NAB orders jump existing Stage 2 orders? Where is it even implied? No need to remind us about "loyalty", thanks. If even offering a Stage 2 and Stage 3 are not above-and-beyond loyalty for existing RED ONE customers, I don't know what is. Point me to a better offer out there, I would love to see it.

But Jim, these are the kind of vague posts that drive us crazy. Is there any chance of getting a little more clarity as to what is really going on?
....

Would be nice to know if these will trickle out in ones and twos, or are you expecting dozens in the first month and then hundreds or thousands in the next few months.

I'm currently about number 50 on the Reduser generated list of stage 2ers, but it would be also nice to know what our actual position is from the source and that could be done in a simple email blast to the stage 2s.

We have made it clear that EPIC-X is production quantities. Therefore, EPIC-X does not equate to a "trickle". EPIC-M is special machined, hand-assembled units in the meantime. Totally different animal....

Pretty sure position on a REDUSER thread on Stage 2 buyers has no relevance to delivery queue. When we have more information to give the Stage 2 buyers, we will communicate with them via email, rest assured. That means if you have not gotten that email yet, there is nothing new to report. So, questions like "What will the final Stage 2 package be? Will it change from what has been posted?" are not something we are answering right now.

And, speaking of loyalty, also rest assured that RED ONE delivery date will play a major factor in your place in queue.

I seem to remember we would get a 30 day notice on when the cameras are to begin shipping. That means if I get my notice today, I'd be looking at the end of March.

No, the policy is once we let you know your Stage 2 is ready to ship, you will have 30 days to settle payment and take delivery. We are not telling people "your camera will be ready 30 days from now". Big difference.

Now that this thread has sufficiently been hijacked from initial topic to reminding of previously posted Stages information... Long story, short: As soon as we have more info, we'll communicate it.

Even though "Everything is subject to change", I hope that clears it up a little.

Brent, first of all - I would point out that I was soothing Mark's distress by pointing out that it was epic-x -i.e. by definition Redone owners, not line jumpers.

My reference to stage 2 thread was to ask for a "direct from Red" notice of where we are. I don't understand why there is any problem with this - you have known for almost a year who has paid the deposit and you have known for three years the order which they were paid/shipped. An intern could create an order list for the first 500 or so in a day or two.

I paid for my R1 several days before the actual notice came - so there is no way anyone with a SN after mine should have been delivered before mine - which was shipped approx. Jan 4, 2008. So what is the problem with letting me know whether that means I'm number 60 or number 206 in line (which would mean ALL earlier SNs took delivery in order)?

Why do I care? Multiple legitimate reasons, which I will enumerate again if you feel it's necessary. It's the end of february when production cameras were supposed to start shipping, your customers have asked for as much clarity as possible - that's not too much to ask.

Even if you don't have the specifics, maybe you could take a moment to explain why all of this needs to be so vague at such a late date? I've been in business for 25 years and dealt with virtually every kind and level of customer from Joe Blow to NASA, all of the military branches, Panasonic, etc. and all kinds of suppliers as well, so I probably understand most of the issues better than most, but some of this just baffles me.

Michael, I understand and appreciate the desire for that information. No need to explain again, you have have made that clear. Just like I hoped I had made it clear that when there was more info, we would tell the people it applied to.

OK  Not really trying to start anything.

Perhaps I missed it Brent and not trying to make your head burst, I appreciate your patience to make things clear...I really do. We basically dont know which stage Jim was referring to in his original post. I can only assume its stage 3 only as well cause stage 2 closed a long time ago. Whats thats old saying about the word "assume"? ;)

I know, Michael. I just saw this thread going down a path littered with assumptions so I wanted to clear up based on what has already been posted.

Brent,

Far be it for me to tell Red/Jim how to run the business, but maybe all these little questions could be answered in another big Recon update like Jim did on January 22nd.

I know it was only a month ago, but it really seems like it would clear up a lot of stuff and let people know where they stand ....

Just a thought :)

John, from what I read, summer was mentioned for EPIC-X. Stage 3.5 is EPIC brain, not EPIC-X. If there is another post where Jim says EPIC (sans X) by Summer, then that's what it is - I just cannot remember seeing one saying that.

Anthony (and everyone else), please try to remember that posting on REDUSER is not part of anyone's "job" at RED. We do this on top of everything else we do at RED. It is a great medium to communicate over and we enjoy posting (most of the time, haha). We are doing our best here to communicate openly. I would argue you guys do not have this experience with too many other companies you deal with...

Any EPIC-X ordered at NAB will be delivered by this summer.

Jim

Sorry Brent, But this post from Jim just took me surprise yesterday and I sincerely mean no disrespect.I know you guys are doing the best you can. That is not in question.

The fact that us early adopters / early deposit payers / Early RED ONE buyers are only a month or so in front of brand new NAB purchasers. (maybe less)

This Summer officially starts June 20th so in 4+ months time people that order from NAB will receive there cameras. So us early EPIC deposit payers / Early RED ONE buyers are... getting ours only a few weeks before them?

Were as I have ordered and paid a healthy deposit(s) early last year. So I end up with an EPIC around the same time probably as people that have just walked up to the NAB RED Stand and placed an ordered over the counter?

Sorry Brent. I'm just feeling a little pushed sideways. Epic "M's" are popping up out for the movie boys and hardly any of us (non movie types) get a chance to even have one of those either.

I just want to know one thing then I'll shut up about this. Will all of us early deposit paying, early numbered REDONE purchases get our EPICS months before NAB buyers. If not.... then why were we pressured to pay up early or we loose our slots, when obviously slots don't really count anymore? or do they?

I apologize for sounding like a spoilt brat. I understand the pressure in there at the moment, but as an early consumer I'm just not wanting to feel like we put money forward early for no real advantage other than getting an "X" .

Once again.. Sorry for sounding like a cry baby. Just having a little sooky moment.
I'll go back into my hole now.:violin:

Oh and we do appreciate the one on one communication.:001_rolleyes:

Mark, EPIC-X is only for loyal Red customers IMHO.

So Jim is just talking about you guys. New Red customers likely may wait till after summer.

Just re-read what Jim said - with that in mind - and it'll be OK :)

In response to being asked when Stage 4 customers could expect an Epic, Jim answered this on Jan 17th.

End of summer.

Jim

Is this is true, Stage 3.5 would naturally proceed this.

However, producing 8000+ cameras in eight months is a daunting proposal and there is no need to rush a great thing. Let's not even talk about all of the accessories that will be in high demand and needed to professionally operate these cameras.

I will be more than happy to see a beautifully manufactured Epic whenever Jim and Red have them ready ... and not a day before. :thumbup1:

However, I would love to see some kind of incentive for Stage 3.5 owners to keep their Red One cameras. I think a lot of owners in that stage would opt to do so.

Mark, I understand your point of view. From our end, as soon as we announced the Stages program, we saw post after post, email after email saying "when can I sign up? I want to sign up. Can I sign up now?". As soon as we were ready, we took reservations on Stage 2.

Now, it is "it has been so long since you took my deposit on Stage 2. Why did you take it so early?"

Sometimes damned if you do, damned if you don't, you know?

I think we can all agree we want to roll out as many EPICS as fast as we can. You want them, we want to get them to you. We are not going to purposefully put in a delivery gap between one group of customers and another (for example stop delivering cameras for a few months between stage 2 and stage 3 so the stage 2 group feels they got them far enough in advance of stage 3 to be happy). No, we are going to have production quantities and are going to ship them as fast as we can.

No need to apologize, no hard feelings. We want the same thing....
