Hey Epic owners,

Was just curious about what the current redcode/frame-rate settings that are enabled in the Epic-Ms?

Is there a 5K Anamorphic mode? If so, any idea of the pixel dimensions?

Is everybody using Solid State drives? Or are you able to still use a red drive for normal frame-rates, but highest redcode?

Cheers!

You can go as low as 3:1 at 24 frames per second in the build I have. I have seen lower compression at other frame rates, but I do not know if that's in the current M build or not. I know I've seen 12:1... haven't gone past. I don't remember what the upper limit is.

There is not currently a 5K Ana mode, but you could shoot 5K FF and just crop/desqueeze in RCX.

Everybody is using SSDs. There is currently no way to attach a RED DRIVE or other media in the shipped bodies that I have seen. Don't misinterpret that is a permanent thing, I'm just commenting on what it is at this moment.

Christopher I think if your writing an article the place to ask is RED not through the forums no? No-one here speaks for RED officially except the employees so I wouldn't repeat anything written here in an article about RED/Epic?

Forgive me if I've misread your intentions.

Jesus, I've said a thousand times I'm not writing about ANY manufacturer. I was curious about the Epic for an upcoming project. Believe it or not, I do use Red cameras. I just call Dino since open discourse is not possible here anymore.

Let's not get paranoid people.

Thanks Dino, looking forward to working with your cam soon!

No need to blow your lid, hence me saying I apologize if I was misreading your intentions which I obviously did.

Yea Dino just told me about this, I was THIS close to using his camera this week on an anamorphic Eminem shoot. Thankfully, we were already overextended budgetwise and couldn't afford the added costs to swap to an Epic. Wouldn't have worked anyway since all we had were anamorphics!

I'll post that one soon, very pleased with the imagery in that one. Kinda Se7en meets Identity.

Probst is a pretty amazing DP that has shot some of the best looking Red footage I've ever seen and is very impressive to watch in person.

Jumping to conclusions from technical questions is one sure way to keep working professionals with invaluable knowledge and experience off this forum.

I don't get it. This is a forum where questions about a product are supposed to be discussed. Getting your questions answered directly from RED isn't always that easy for everyone. I know Academy Award winners who can't get the technical specs on the Epic they need.
