Hey guys,

I decided to do a separate thread for M8 so to separate Steve's EFP style from my Cine Style shooting techniques and Gear choices
of set up and type. I don't follow the Hollywood ways, as I have always had my own unique style of doing things in the 30 years of
my Photography work, and will continue to do the same for my Cinematography and now also *CinePhotography work.

I am fortunate in off to be an Independent FilmMaker and be able to brake any and all rules at will since I am my own Boss, and I
report to no one, for this what I do and how I do it might be very different from what you have done and are doing in working in
Hollywood productions, trust me when I say no way is right or wrong or better then the other, it just accommodates different
Shooting styles based on choices of gear and personal preferences.

I have started a series of Collaborative Shoots with our EPIC M8, that will vary from Extreme Landscapes, to Action, Beauty,
High Fashion, Super HOT & Sexy (), to the Narrative work that I will come to it when back in Italy this Summer. With this
series of Collaborative shoots I intend to Showcase the true Value to me of EPIC, and why I am as excited about this camera as I
have never been, and even so as I said before the RED ONE was and it is an incredible camera, it never hit my true Artistic spirit as
EPIC did, possibly because coming form Photography the EPIC ergonomics made me more Identifiable with its form, but most likely
simply just because EPIC packs a PUNCH that no past and or present (and more then likely for a long time not even Future) cameras possess.

In this thread I wil continue to present you with an insane amount of BTS Videos and Pictures of all our Shoots, as most of you know I am a
bit Obsessed with the BTS some times even more so then the actual shoot itself, and or the actual Movie it self for that matter ;) so count on been
Visually Entertained, and discuss at will my style and choices, and ask as many questions as you like, I with pleasure respond to them all, as I get
time away form our daily shoots around the US.

Crew wil be different on each shoot, and they to will jump in and respond and participate in this thread, some of them they will be known names to
you but not current Reduser, and they will be new as they will be joining this Fantastic Community in this Thread, so I please ask you to be polite and
kind to them as you have been to me ;) this will present ourselves with a clean and informative Discussion Thread, with out the need for Deleted
Posts and or out of Context discussion not good t any one here.

If you have some particular Test shots that you like us to perform while on any of our Shoots please fill free to ask, but understand that I can not
promise we will do any of them, also do not ask to do any Technical tests such as test this lens vs. that lens, or test Epic against Red One or Alexa
or Sony, it will never happen with me ;) but I will no doubt try to accommodate any god and informative test for the community and the Good of
RED, if this is truly something beneficial and possible during our shoots.

Unfortunately as we have learned form the bad experience and loss of Mark, we will never post ahed exact locations of were we will be shooting,
however, we will be announcing here a General location and or City were each shoot will take place, so that if there is some one of you that likes
to participate on any of this shoots can request so, just don't be offended if you don't get accepted to be part of it, as this are all Strict NDA
collaborative shoots, adn unless you have something positive to bring to the shoot, we don't allow visitors and or bystanders.

Well , heading out RIGTH NOW... see you son with some goodies ;)

Ketch, great idea!

I like your “CinePhotography term.
R1 and now even more EPIC opens what I discovered and used since the first day I put my hands on RED.

I could capture and see the frozen in time images that before the RED era, escaped my attention.

I wonder Ketch if you ever tried to work with beauty and nature underwater?
This is the one of many subjects where CinePhotography will shine.

Have fun out there with Epic M8 guys! I'm sure you will...and I'm sure my friend Tom Lowe is stoked to get a chance to shoot with Epic this soon! IMO he deserves a chance...

Epic M8 will always be with either me or Ketch at all times. When its with me, I'm responsible for the camera and the footage that's shot. When its with Ketch, he's responsible for the camera and the footage that's shot. Ketch shoots some subject matter that I don't - and vice versa.

I learned to shoot cine style way back in the '70's, but in the early '80's by choice polarized over to EFP style shooting. I like that and will continue to almost exclusively shoot EFP style with Epic, using 35mm still lenses.

Don't assume that images shot EFP style can't look cinematic in aesthetics. The big differentiation between EFP style and cine style shooting isn't necessarily about frame rates, but mostly about the different techniques of focusing (EFP is eye focusing by shooter, cine is by measurements, then focusing done by an AC), accessories (hand racked lens barrel and screw-on filters in EFP, FF and MB with cine), exposure (zebras and histogram with EFP, hand meters and sometimes histogram with cine), lenses (usually cine with cine, usually 35mm still or B4 2/3" with EFP), and crew (shooter doing all camera functions with EFP, split camera functions with cine between shooter and AC). Again, horses for courses. Each style is generally better for certain genres of production and delivery medium. In essence, the two styles are techniques and setups to capture the needed aesthetic properties expected by the intended audience. To do either style well good takes a lot of practice - and neither is "better" - they're just different approaches which are appropriate for the genres serviced.

But one of the really cool things about Epic is that it can be setup quickly to shoot either style! Set the camera up, accessorize it the way you need, choose your lens - and away you go. For those of us who shoot all three - EFP style, cine style, stills - Epic is an incredibly diverse and capable camera system.

Fun times ahead guys :thumbup1:

A quick stop by to say that I just arrived on location with TOM LOWE ;)

Also to thank every one for their quick kind words, trust me when I say you will not be disappointed ;)

Steve, hope you don't mis too much our Baby, will take great care of it, and yes as you said, we each have our own shooting
likes and not only on shooting style but also on subject matter, so yes all the shoots and footage in this thread it is separate
from what Steve and I will continue to shoot together.

Curtain up for some fresh wind in the biz ... :-)

I am SOOOO looking forward to how current frontiers are going to be pushed to oblivion
in so many ways by free spirited artists, like you certainly are one, Ketch ...

Now, this era is becoming about the misfits ... (to echo a little uberquote)
... this is the most exciting time, to be alive ...!

Thumbs up, and may the force be with all of us ...
hehe :-)

He he, love your ways with words Detlev ;)

K got to go... see you here later tonight, oh and don't worry both Tom and I are PROTECTED he he :gun:

Thanks Ketch

Thanks Ketch

Thanks Ketch and Steve for sharing so much with us. Its great to be able to experience your Epic moments and learn almost in realtime the same as what your learning from this great tool. What you have to say is so important and it would be so much easier to digest without the white noise that follows many posts. Is there any way you can lock down some threads just so we have the facts and perhaps have a second thread for questions requesting to keep white noise to a minimum? As a busy working DP my surfing time is limited and i'd love to make my time on this forum a better and more productive use of my limited down time . Thanks again for your sharing and all the effort your putting back into this community.

Wow, really freaking awesome!!! :) I love all Tom's stuff until now ... but ...

Tom + Ketch + Epic + Master Primes = OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Thanks Ketch, I'm very interested in how the Epic performs on time lapses -- one of my favorite movies from last year (The Town) used them several times, though of course not as stunning as Tom makes them.

Good luck guys and can't wait to see :thumbup1:

just out of curiosity.. why wont anyone who has an epic do an epic vs red mx test?

I would be VERY VERY interested in this test..

Because it isn't appropriate yet. Regardless of timing or name this is still much like the original tattoo program concept - camera firmware not finished and not really the " production" version yet.

Also, I think it's because these guys are so excited to finally get and be using an Epic, the thought of doing a test with their "old" camera isn't that inspiring.

But I think Dino has said he would soon ... and I'm sure once the excitements drops a little someone else will probably done one as well. I could definitely see Mark doing a serious test at some point ...

Patience Zak, it will happen, but too much excitement for these guys in playing with their new toy -- and to be honest, I would be the same in their shoes :)

Thanks for the kind words, Steve.

I'm having a blast with Ketch and Epic M8. What can I say? The camera is mind-boggling. It would be kind of like having a random Verizon flip phone in 2005, and suddenly being handed an iPhone 4. It's kind of like that.

I'm ready to retire my MX!

Thanks guys,

back from a great Day shooting with Tom Lowe, Great Guy, out on the Salton Sea California.

We did had to walk on very Muddy terrain wearing very Guffy Huge Waders ha ha.

Posted just few shots above of were we wore and the light set up with the Epic M8 and a Red Pro Prime 300mm.

Its a true Pleasure to share with this great community, and the Love sure helps making us want to share more ;)
Don't think there is a way to do that Jon, but we appreciate the Love, and for this I reserved the first 3 Posts for posting
impressions and some BTS stuff in the beginning of this thread.

He he, love your enthusiasm Anthony, we didn't get to shot MP's today but tomorrow we will ;)

Use protection, always.

Very funny Paolo...

:thumbup1: Ketch!

How about collaborative shoots in India?

:cheers2:

Thanks Jeetu, but I'm sorry, for now al shoots are to be in the USA, once I get back to Italy will travel in many parts of the world ;)

Again Zakaree, there is no way that any one will get me to waist my time doing any type of test of this against that,
sorry life is way nicer doing what I love most ;)

Michael also made some great points as why this should not be happening now any ways, and I'm sure when production cameras
hit the streets there will be some one that will do those type of tests just it will not be me, and or Steve for that matter ;)

I need to hurry back. I hate missing out on all of the fun! :p

Yeah Joseph you are missing out in deed ;)

wait a minute, Ketch...how did you manage to shift from Super HOT & Sexy to wallowing in thick mud with Tom Lowe?? heh.

Interesting times, indeed!

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what you chaps shoot out there....

Ha ha, getting Muddy can be sexy as well, off course we missed not having girls to play with

It was a fun day, a bit exhausting for me walking on the Muddy flat, as those boots were getting heavier and heavier,
but this is the price you pay to be shooting with Tom, you never know were you will end up ;)

I had a job once where I had to spend 3 weeks shooting RED ONE in that mud - best job I ever had! - but I know what you mean about the boots, they just get heavier and heavier and you slide all over the place. and they sink deeper and deeper, the harder you struggle - behaves like quicksand. Dries like cement.

On that shoot, my PA had to get pulled out of the mud by holding onto a bulldozer - the operator lifted him gently, and fortunately, his boots came with him.

good times, it's giving me flashbacks...psyched to see the footage.

Sorry, are you going to make footage in cine-style (filming look) if is it possible?

Cine-style?? Looks like EFP to me.

You need a dozen guys sitting around doing sweet FA and a whole bunch of gunk strapped to the camera for a proper cine-style set-up:D

That's what I was thinking, but this is as good, if not better. It's really great to see the EPIC out in the wild, literally.

You guys have to pay more attention to the thread ;)

I said "The KETCH ROSSi" Cine Style, and that I shoot very differently then any one else, I have my
own unique ways, of adapting Modern Technologies and various gear to fit my specific needs, using
Cinema Equipment, you will never see me employing waste of Crew and Talent on unnecessary
overloads of gear and people, also having shot with Steve, I learned that He is right, to keep things
light weight and fast to set up for the kind of out door shots on the go, and Tom does the same ;)

Hey Tom and Ketch
You are having way too much fun than allowed.
Tanks for posting. Keep the good stuff coming.
And yeah, for cinestyle you need much more boys and girls hanging around doing nothing : )
Rock on guys.

Tim

Thanks Tim, wil be sure to keep the fun coming, oh I mean footage and pics coming he he.

Na, we prefer to keep it limited to fe Boys... maybe we need more girls
