Correct, we made enough RED-DRIVES to try to fulfill the people who had them on backorder. Those people were given option of getting a RED-DRIVE or switching to a REDMAG order. Since some people opted for REDMAG, we have some RED-DRIVE left for those that are interested. Once these are all sold, they are done. No more will be manufactured. But, yes, we will still support them for repair.

If you have a RED-DRIVE on backorder and have not decided if you want it or REDMAG, make up your mind quickly because the RED-DRIVE should go pretty fast. Just contact your BOMB SQUAD rep to complete that RED-DRIVE order....

We have run out of RED-DRIVEs so they have been removed from RED.com's online store.

BRING ON THE SSDs!!!! whoo hooo!!!!....please?

Then you better have them SSDs ready, willing and able! Need some now!

Hi!

I can't find the answer... although I'm sure the question has been asked before.

Does the RED DRIVE work with EPIC at regular frame rates? Meaning, 5K at 24 or 25 fps.

Thanks!
Mike

EPIC monitoring.

Plan on using SSD for EPIC... data rates are substantially higher than on RED ONE.

Hi Stuart!

I think you're right. However, if we have the RED DRIVES anyway... will they work with 24fps? I imagine the HDR mode or higher frame rates will indeed mean much higher data rates... but will regular 24fps work with the current Drives? I imagine the data rates will not be above what the Drive can already do.

Thanks!
George

Wow, this time I've been lucky, I ordered one yesterday night, just before they disapeared from the store...:001_unsure:

Even if they don't work in 5K or lower compression rates, I still think they can be useful in some situations. Plus, they should work fine with Scarlets too.

That doesn't mean I won't use SSD mags too on Epic. Actually I just ordered a couple of 256GB SSD mags to be sure to get them when my Epic ships.

Do you know when SSD will be available in Red Europe?

I would sell all my drives and cables as soon as I got my SSD module and media. Anybody wants it?

Luis,

I emailed Alan P at Red Europe last week about prices etc and he said in his email that they had most things in stock apart from the MatteBox.

Drop him a line at alanp at red dot com

How do you connect a Red Drive to an Epic or a Scarlet? Is there an appropriate eSATA LEMO port on the Epic or Scarlet, or is an adapter necessary? And is that adapter available?

See: http://reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=724350&postcount=16

and some subsequent posts. RED have clearly stated that the drive WILL be supported on EPIC & Scarlet, but how & when are unclear as yet. Note well however the caveat about maximum data rates!

I was in Red Europe the other day and asked about SSD's. Alan said he expected them in about a months time all being well.

How, meaning how much the adapter will cost and when, was what I was hoping to find out from RED. Same as the last time I asked the question (Mike's link).

But I've asked enough times, and I have time to wait, so I won't ask any more. Not a big deal, as used RED drives will be available for quite some time, and my use would be limited (relatively long interviews with tripod-mounted camera). Maybe someone will eventually be licensed (i.e. purchase the right to use RED firmware instead of hacking it) to refurb them or even make larger RAIDs if RED decides to put that old tech behind them.

There's no current place to plug in the RedDrive on the Epic, maybe you can get a port instead of an SSD adapter?

Yeah, and I don't expect a port on Scarlet either.

I'm no electronics expert, but it seems that since SSD is just a hard drive and the Red Drive just takes a eSATA stream (through a more rugged connector), there could be an adapter with appropriate board inside that just slides into the RED SSD slot with a LEMO receptacle on the back. Whatever it is, if the adapter is at all expensive I'll just buy more SSDs when the time comes. I would still want SSD for the other run and gun work I do.

When will the SSD drives be available here in the U.S.? I stayed up all night a few months back as I thought there was extra SSD drives going to be available on a first come bases.....but still no word, it would be nice to know when we can expect to receive them.

Thanks
Richard
