Until now the only chance most people got to see one of the new Leica Summilux-C lenses, including us at Band Pro, was at a tradeshow, often in some far-flung corner of the world. At long last the lenses have come home and are available for demo. This week the lenses are in Burbank at the Band Pro headquarters. Next week they’ll be at our office in New York, then briefly at Cine Photo Tech in Atlanta. There’s also a set at our Munich office making the rounds through Europe and popping up at workshops and seminars.
Full Schedule here: http://bit.ly/ge3oTi
The current “set” available for demo is comprised of five of the eight lenses. Focal lengths are 21, 35, 40, 50 and 75mm. The remaining three lenses (18, 25 and 100mm) will be coming soon-ish.
You can expect to see footage shot with the lenses at this year’s NAB in Las Vegas. Afterwards it will be available online. We’ll try to post a few clips beforehand depending on the shooting schedule.
From the testing and projecting that we did with the lenses last week it’s safe to say that the Leica lenses definitely meet the performance specifications. Regarding the image and “look,” well, that’s a highly personal distinction for most people, but they do fit nicely between warmer Cooke and cooler Zeiss lenses. But, when it comes to resolution, they’re in a category all their own.
If you’d like to stop by the office (either New York or Burbank) and check out the lenses, drop us a line at summilux@bandpro.com and we’d be happy to set up a time.
