  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut vs Adobe Premiere

There are many more variables to these benchmarks! CPU is just one of the many variables in a PC. Clearly, it is an apples-to-oranges list. Another way of looking at it would be i7 2600K matching the 12-core Xeon X5680 system, wouldn't it? That's a $3200 worth of CPUs barely matching a single $320 CPU. But there's always more to it.

For starters, the i7 920 system is powered by 12 hard drives in RAID 30. Clearly it is an exceptional system, considering there are no other i7 920/930 in the top 50 or so.

Do read some of the Core i7 2600K reviews (it's littered all over the internet) for more accurate apples-to-apples benchmarks. It outperforms even the Core i7 965 and gives the 980X a real fight when overclocked.

But much of this discussion is a moot point considering P67 motherboards aren't available any more, and won't be till March. The best price/performance option is probably a Core i7 870, I think.

I agree it's not an apples to apples to comparison, but since this discussion is about Premiere Pro, it's appropriate to look at Premiere Pro CS5 benchmarks.

The 2x SSD's in RAID 0 on the i7-920 system isn't too shabby. The Disk I/O for those two systems is pretty close despite the i7-920 system boasting the Areca RAID. CPU and CPU+GPU benches were neck and neck. Also, ADK (builder of the 2700K system) builds machines at the top of the heap performance-wise: http://www.adkvideoediting.com/

The main problem with the P67 platform is the lack of PCIe lanes (unable to install a proper RAID controller).

Some times it does lag. with uncompressed HD but I do not do much of that. What really bothers me is the lack of enough PCIe Slots to run a decent workstation. after all that is what Mac pros are right? I have to pull cards out to install the ones I need to finish a job. what an annoyance.
how do you guys running a RR, Davinci Resolve and a decent Raid, Fc Nic, plus A/V output borad do it? I want to know!!! Really. Can you dod that with a Hackintosh? I mean you have the Slots! !!. Peter can you shine in?

Mac Pros have always been pretty limited internally in terms of expansion potential. In my main box, I run two video cards and two RAID cards with room to spare.
