James Cameron has announced that he's researching ways to shoot 60fps 3D for Avatar 2. I don't know about everyone else, but the 60fps/48fps/Motion Flow thing is completely lost on me. Looks like home video to me, I think it's god-awful... I should also mention that I hate 3D.

I guess you have to like 3D in the first place to like high frame rates.

We actually be shooting 48fps and 60fps for our 3D project as well on Epic/Atom rigs, will see the first shoot how it goes ;)

But I have been supportive and bad mouthed for this, now that James cameron is doing it I will not get bashed as much.. I figure he he.

Fact is that will reduce greatly Motion artifacts, and will be much easier and better on the eye and also bring cleaner detail.

But we wil do our first tests shots on Master Primes at T*1.3 ;)

There are are very few things I will become sanctimonious about.
This is one of them.

Fuck 3D.

But I'm sure he'll still do a 24fps 2D film print for you and others who only want to see 1/6th of the movie he made :P

I assume motion blur would be affected by this? IE, the 24 fps version might look choppy?

Perhaps I'm just being lazy and critical of 3D filmmaking but I wish it would go away.

Shooting and projecting a 4k image at 60 fps sounds enticing. I know Arri did a test like that with the Alexa. It ended up looking like HD video, so there was an apparent gamma shift of sorts.

The world really IS ending in 2012... :puke:

60fps, 48fps, Plasma TV "Motion Flow," all look disgusting. Why why why does ANYONE like watching that crap? It makes high budget films look like they were shot by an ENG news crew.

I wish someone could un-invent these new frame rates. :gun:

I think it's a great idea, and would love to see Avatar 2 projected 3D in 4K at 60p... like a ride-movie...

Once again, this is not traditional 2D Film he wants to emulate, but a 3D immersive fast action environment...
and who says he can't change effective framerates midstream for more Filmic looking shots?

I'd even love if anyone at Red to chime in about how Red 4K in 3D looks at higher than 24fps...

He can shoot it at 200fps in the sixth dimension for all I care. It'll still be shit.

If he does shoot at 60p, then he won't be able to release on Blu-ray as 3D, at least not 1080p. 720p does allow 59.94 for 3D.

Not sure what that even means for SD DVD where 59.94 is not even an option. I suppose they could drop frames, like ESPN does for streaming, and offer at 29.97p.

they have figured out new brainwashing techniques through TV at higher frequency.. unlike the old frequency programming.. hence why everything is moving that way;-P

Will we actually be seeing this in 60fps per eye? Or will that boil down to 30fps? each?

I'll be interested to see how it looks on the screen.

Well, I tough of shooting with additional cameras, side buy side of the 3D rigs, to shoot 24fps, off course this cameras will
have to be all set yup with ND's and even so the lighting will be taken care of at best, still remain the issue of composition,
as I will be composing with 3D Depth budget in mind, and IMO FG and BG cross objects will not work well for 3D as they
do on 2D and vice versa, curious to see what James has in mind ;)

MARK PETERSON cares, that's who... guy's company makes BANK doing 3D. As does Cioni and Freebairn and all the top pro contributing to this forum and dont forget

KETCH ROSSI CARES!
