I was recently involved in a car crash whiles on a job, that resulted in both my primary and backup Macbook Pros being crushed. The insurance is about to pay up and I am going to buy new machines.
In a nearby suburb I have an Apple retailer and literally around the corner from that an actual Apple store opened up not long ago.

Both offer nice little incentives to sweeten the deal and I figured it now boils down to where I prefer to buy the machines.
What would be in your mind the rite thing to do, buy from the small business owner or from the major corporate one? Is there an advantage to buying from an actual Apple store?

There is no real advantage to buying from an Apple Retail Store. If you are a student or developer buying from Apple directly has discounts.

Your local store may offer value added service, a discount or bundle, or you may just enjoy supporting local business.

Or you can pay for a retail experience with perfect clean looks and shine.

Since you are based in Sydney Australia. Buy from JB Hifi. They are the cheapest Apple dealer around and will probably give you heaps of free things also.

JB hifi will actually discount Apple gear. Offer them a stupid price and meet them somewhere in between or ask them to give you a big discount on apple care as applecare is an essential option on any mac

If you have any issues, you will have to deal with Apple phone support, which I personally have had some bad experiences with. If the guy is an Apple techie sort of guy, then it would be best to go with him as he will be a better go between with you and Apple. The likes of JB Hi-Fi....again....bad experiences with them too with a HP laptop....just shoved me off to an Indian call centre...they had no interest in getting involved with solving the dead computer...just the sale.

Usually you'll have the best support from a local business - that is: If they know what they're selling.

The Chains (including Apple itself) are most considerating about the first transaction... And the rest is just a hazzle for them.

The last time I was in my local Apple Store they registered me as a business customer. There's something where after you spend like 5k, you start getting a discount on purchases. I forget the exact particulars but it's worth looking into.

Damn, why did I totally forget about that when I bought my 12 core?
