  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 2/3" Fixed @ CES

We are no longer making the 2.8" touchscreen.. it was impossible for any normal sized person to use.

This is awesome news for Stage 3 people who wanted a 5" rather than the 2.8". Thank you!

That's true... How about we do it by forum registration date :P

Its no easyway. Many of us trying to follow the forum daily but dont want to add more noise in the threads. Therefore. they wait to join. I did this until i was sure scarlet was on her way out of the door. Hehe sure been a long hallway to that door. would suck to fall down in line just of this. Anyway this is the most fun forum on internet!

I wonder if they'll sell a limited number of "M" scarlet 2/3" cameras, hand made, before ramping up to full production? It seems like a good way to prove the process and work out the bugs, as well as giving some lucky people a shot at a collector's item.

I don't think you have to worry about it. It was a joke.

Elimination of the 2.8" LCD would suggest the 5" LCD (seen in the video) will now be part of the kit. Original price of the 2.8" was $800 and the 5" was $1200... That suggests a price bump of about $400. Not terrible, all things considered. I guess we'll see.

I'm still waiting to see how they're going to provide battery power to the Scarlet since Ted said once again, that the handle is "optional".

I though Ted meant that the Redmote was optional.

I'm guessing the price has bumped up to $6250 because of HDRx™™ and maybe some other new features we haven't heard of. This price would probably include:
1x Fixed Scarlet 2/3rds
1x Side SSD Module with CF Adapter
1x 5" Pro LCD with 6" Cable
1x Side Grip
1x Battery with travel charger

** I think the Side SSD will be standard. Why? SSD is the future and there's no need to accommodate it any more than a backwards compatible CF adapter with REDCODE limited to the speed of the CF cards. It's pretty simple.

BTW, I've thought about this for a bit and wanted to share it with you guys to see what you thought.

I want to be the first to nominate that Joseph Hutson be a special beta tester for the Scarlet. I think he's done an amazing job here on the forums and has shown remarkable professionalism towards users of all levels. In addition, he has an amazing eagerness to encourage the movement of RED into young filmmakers toolkit and seems extremely knowledgeable in all things RED.

I think he does a great job representing the future of the industry and I can't think of anyone else I'd like to see get it early and show us how he's gonna use it.

Just a thought...

(fyi, I've never met Joseph and I have no personal interest in seeing him get his hands on a Scarlet, it's just an idea and a great PR move)

With these options, the Scarlet-F package would be more 7 750 $, because of the SSD supplement, a CF adapter and the Side grip. You'll get what you pay for.

^^AGREE^^ (with Kevin Olsen)

I remember murmuring of there being more than one type of "package" for the Scarlet.

Is that still the case?

I ask because, personally, I have no use for a 5" Touchscreen at the moment...

If I COULD customise the package, I'd go with:

8x Fixed Scarlet (obviously)
Side SSD Module with CF adapter
Red Side Handle
Battery and Travel Charger

and then RedRock Micro's EVF (costs around $600), and invest in one of RED's touch screens a little later down the line.

Before I get flamed, this is just the package "I" would buy, if multiple packages were an option.

Also, I'm assuming the Scarlet still has an HDMI out...but as Jim always says; "when you ASSUME, you make an ASS of U and ME."

I think that the Scarlet-F package will include :
1x Scarlet-F with CF module
1x REDmote
1x REDvolt
1x Travel charger
1x 5.6" LCD Touchscreen with RED arm & cable

for a price around 6K $.

Thanks man. Those are some of the kindest words anybody have said to me. I appreciate it.

I know I post a lot on here, and sometimes I wonder if I should just quit altogether since I don't want to be annoying to people. It's just that if I ever set myself to doing something, I usually go all out and sometimes overboard with it. So hearing from people like you really encourages me to stay involved here on the forum...

Go away Joseph, no one likes you!

JUST KIDDING

It's getting kind of lonely over at Scarletuser now that you've migrated over here.

I've always assumed that you (and Zac Crosby) would be among the first to get a crack at the Scarlet. You guys definitely deserve it.

I've got my fingers crossed for you guys anyway.

Yes to HDMI.

I/O on the Scarlet Brain is identical to the EPIC...except for the HD-SDI is EPIC only...correct?
