  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st REDCINE-X for EPIC...!!!

6am here, I havent been to bed yet, and with Mark promising to upload that sweet EPIC footage, it dosent look like I'll be signing off any time soon.

How does a post get made at 12:30am on Christmas Eve and by 4am I'm already #61 to reply! :)

Make that the tool of choice for several $200,000,000 to $300,000,000 movies. :-)

Jim

I'm glad I can just as easily use EPIC for my $2 to $3 home movies of my kids! To me, that's what makes this camera so special. Sort of like the human eye. I mean, think about it, 30 years from now what's going to be more valuable to you to have in 5K HDRx, an outdated big budget film or your Son's first home run at 300mm and 120fps?

Thanks Mark! You rule.

hehehe awesomeness. many thanks in advance Mark:-) Quite excited to get a first glance at some epic r3ds:-)

Have a question. What is the top level Redcine-x will playback 5K with the rocket? I saw Jim's post that it'll run at half, but what about full resolution? I may have missed it somewhere on the forum.

waiting for those R3D's

Epic is the tool of choice to a $200,000,000 movie. But it can also be the choice to a 300k movie. Congratulations Mr. Jannard, you did it !

Great thing is, Epic is the best tool for 200,000,000 features and also for 1,000,000 features!!!
Thank you Jim et al !!!

Not the sharpest tool

Not the sharpest tool

I'm feeling a little slow on the uptake this morning ...

While doing the color grades for Ted and the students in the 4K screening room for Reducation last week I was using build 356E. As a long time software guy I thought this was an "engineering" build, I didn't connect the dots that it was the Epic ready build - doh.

Doing real time color correction in 4k on a 4k screen is really F'n cool btw, just wish I could have stuck around for the Santa Fe workshop to see "Camera Santa's" workshop.

I did however get to spend the week on a made for TV Christmas feature, and producers and directors are already beginning to ask about Epic.

As I look back over the year I can honestly say I really look forward to work everyday, I'm forced to keep learning to keep up with the high rate of change, and I have no excuses for not producing really great work, because to tools have just ceased to be a limiting factor.

In short, I feel both challenged and enabled, and I'm totally happy in my work, and surprisingly few people can say that.

My sincerest thanks to the entire RED team for making that possible, and to the broader RED community who are just really great people.

There are a lot of parallels for me to the early days of Macintosh, I feel like I'm an active part in a fundamental change that will positively impact the community in many ways that I can't imagine today.

Thanks to all, and my best wishes for a happy holiday season,

Stephen
