  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I noticed that Kodak and IMAX get their credits at the end of the trailer. It's a shame theres no RED credit there. ...or did I just miss it?

Probably because RED doesn't require recognition contractually like Kodak does. I'm not sure if IMAX requires it, but even if they didn't it's more of a household name than RED making it more of a candidate for inclusion.

Well, I know a hd QuickTime trailer on a computer screen is not the right thing to judge the quality upon, but the lack of grain in the night scenes is pretty visible to me. and there's something slightly "off" in some scenes, like the one with the sails dropping down.

The style and color palate has made the transition quite well as can be seen from these sources.

I agree, the cinematography looks fabulous..(disclaimer: I REALLY like Wolski's "style") :-)
 
Watched the trailer in IMAX today. Man does it look superb, rich and deep.

Picture perfect as they say.

ps. McShane was born to play a pirate...go Lovejoy.
 
Will catch this in IMAX. Also, watched TRON: Legacy today. Smiled brightly as POTC 4: On Stranger Tides came up :)

I agree with everything you said. I saw the trailer today, before Tron. The picture quality looked great on the big screen. I also noticed some motion artifacts, like the sail, that you mentioned. If I didn't see those artifacts and read these boards, I would have thought it was film and I mean that as a compliment.

Bingo. Nothing gets into paid-ads unless it is contractually required or will help get asses in seats (i.e. review quotes, awards, etc.)

Maybe my eyesight isn't what it used to be, but what motion artifacts are you talking about? A screenshot would help, because I can't see what you guys are referring to.

When the sail opens 16 sec in the trailer, it has that strobing/smearing digital look. You have to see it in motion.

Faster shutter speed perhaps? You also see the strobing in a fire shot earlier in the trailer.

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes/brain :-)
I just know I don't really like it, it looks way too "video-y" for my taste, I hope it's just something that happened with the trailer.
