Okay guys,

as it was discussed an an other thread I started while ago, my RPP set is done and back form Matthew Duclos, with hum
I collaborated to renew the RPP's with added Focus Markings, I loved the RPP's before but now love them even more ;)

Each lens was Mapped out to add Focus Markings, Engraved and Calibrated for Precision.

Turn around should be with in 7/10 Days, however as with every one else, it will depend on the work load
that Matt will be experiencing when you send your RPP's in.

The cost of this is $2,400 for the set of SIX from 18mm thru 100mm, so about $400 per lens.

Will be bringing the set over to Red Studios some time this week or next week so that Jarred can also take a good look in person,
but I'm sure that He will concur of the great job done here, and now al RPP owners have the option to have this done.

THIS is the way to go THIS is awesome.
Next time i use RPP I really really really want them to have markings like this.

What a great idea Ketch.

Nice!

nice!! is that a new collar or additional markings etched onto the existing one?

Matthew, when you pop in here, these look VERY nice. What do you expect turnaround time to be on a set?

This only fixes the problem with too few marks, what about the marks that are already there that incorrect. They really need to have a whole new scale added to the lens, not just the extra markings.

congrats

congrats

Good job Ketch- that's a major effort. I've marked and engraved many lenses over the years and , trust me- it's a major PITA. I hope you're getting something out of it.....

Thanks guys, but the congrats here really go to Matt and his Engraver, all I have done is collaborate the amount of Markings to be added ;)

Lu, next time you need them you know were to find them ;)

Shawn, this are new Added Focus Markings on the same Collar.

Please don't spread FUD. Do you really think Ketch and Matt would go to this effort and not deal with that?

FWIW this is something I called Duclos about right after I got my RPPs and we discussed options, costs, etc. Kudos to Ketch for following up with Matt and making this happen. IMHO if you are doing narrative work at short stops this is a no brainer - run, don't walk, before he gets swamped.

marks that ARE off

Blair and Ketch/Matt
Marks could be off on lenses- I've seen marks off on Angies, Zeisses, Cookes etc.
I've sent lenses back to the manufacturer for that reason.
Rather than sweeping this under the carpet I suggest that it is addressed here on this thread as this is probably the most appropriate thread to do this to date....
It's a correctable error and I think it would be to everyone's benefit to know how it is corrected. In the past I've obtained scales from Angie with only numbers engraved and I've marked and engraved the lines myself(engraver actually engraved them- I just marked) This is how the factory does it actually...
Ketch, Matt?
BTW there could be various reasons for marks to be off. Operator error is the most common(duh) but also most contested(duh)
Back focus comes to mind next.
faulty measuring aids like stretched cloth tape is another. Before a definite determination about incorrect marking is made all these have to be eliminated...

This set was sent in to add Focus Markings only and not for changing the entire Collar and or remove/delete current Markings
and completely RE-MARK form Scratch all Focus Markings, s I have not seen the need for this.

However it is something that Matt and I also discussed, were for those sets of lenses that are incorrect, then a complete
RE-MARKING will be needed.

So I suggest that if you know your set to have this issue, then make it clear to Matt so that this can be dealt with accordingly,
however the price will not be the same and neither the time frame for getting it done ;)

thanks for the reply and for looking it to this issue. I have looked at several sets and they all seem to be out on a few of the lens, a couple of millimetres here and there or spot on on one side of the lens and then the mark different on the other side. Any idea of price If one of the lens needed to be completely remarked.

If your lenses where incorrect why did you not send them back? Mine are fine. so where the other 2 sets i have rented. a few assistants have mentioned that they would like a few marks here and there so I think this is a great addition to the RPP's

Good work gents!

What on you on about, 'Spreading fud'. I am stupid enough to suggest they wouldn't check for this, as if.

Everybody has different experiences of the kit they use, my set of lenses when I received them they weren't perfect, I know of other sets that where not correct either.

What I am saying is that the red pro primes are great lenses, in term of look and sharpness, but the quality control on these lenses is not 100% perfect.
No big secret, just check through posts and other people experiences. I am sure there are other owners of red pro primes who would be interested in having the whole scale on lens replaced.

Something worth mentioning is that warranty is lost by doing this to them, right?

Is it?

I thought this operation was done in understanding with Red.

Would a metric re-mark add to the cost?

If one ordered a set from Red, could one have the sent for re-marking and then sent to Europe?

This is a great effort! Thanks Ketch!

It would also be nice if Matt was able to extend the witness mark so that is goes all the way down to the barrel with the markings.

Erik bit me to it ;)

However what Jarred was referring to as far as the hood has to do with the removal of the 17-50 hood and nothing to do
with adding of the Focus Markings on the RPP's.

However, just to make sure no one misunderstand what Jarred said responding to my other Thread, please do wait for a Official statement form RED, either Jarred or Jim
before you send in your RPP's thinking that the Warranty will be kept intact and not Voided. Jarred will need to first see my RPP's and also read the full process that
Matthews goes thru in order to be able to give his Official decision on Warranty matters when Adding and or Re-marking RPP's, only then you will have certainty
of what is going on with your warranty.

Att worst, as Jarred also mentioned, Matthews Duclos will have to take over the Warranty ;)

Apologies to Colm, long couple of days. I should have just quoted the relevant portion of Ketch's post rather than make a snarky comment.

In any case, I stand by the statement that anyone looking to use the RPPs at short stops, particularly in narrative work, should seriously consider the Duclos marking mod assuming RED doesn't have an issue on the warranty side.

Cheers - #!9
