  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recovering Files after POST hang

I am actually considering trying this on one of my drives...

I'm told that it won't work.

I came up with the notion a while back.

I can't find it now, but I later had conversations with RED folks about this, and it kind of went nowhere.

As Eric says, they are EOL now. RED should release the tools and procedures and say "have at it folks, its out of warranty and on you."

I mean... even the old stodgy camera manufacturers let you do maintenance at your own risk on their gear- they'll even sell you the maintenance manual.

I agree with Dylan. Hard drives usually only have about a 3-4 year 'reliable' lifespan when they are nice and safe inside a computer. Most of the Red drives out there are getting close to that age and they have probably seen more action than normal drives.

Has anyone swapped out the drives in a RedRaid with SSDs? Does it work or is the RedRaid firmware somehow locked to the original drives?

Since Red is no longer shipping Red drives, it would be very cool if they could supply instructions/software/firmware to let us refurbish our own (at our own risk, of course).

Send the log files to support so they can check to see if there's a hardware issue.

Log file just sent with camera and media setup exactly as during fault (except powered from Mains AC) - the camera and drive hasn't been used since that job:
