  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

But will it need a Scarlet module adapter or a Epic module adapter, since I guess the dimension of the brain hasn't changed...

One would think that since it is now "officially" part of the EPIC family, that it would share the same overall form factor (meaning same body size).

But, I'm completely speculating... Just would make more sense to do that though, in my opinion. Clear definition between Scarlet and EPIC with form factor/size and sensor size.

Is there still a plan for Scarlet? Or you guys simply can't stop yourself from making it "too good"? :-)

As I said... I am a big Scarlet fan and there will be an announcement soon about a new Scarlet update.

Jim

I'm sure there's been put some thought into this name change, but from a customer standpoint "Epic Light" does sound a bit underwhelming. I'd rather buy a product from the top of a product line-up than the lowest model; even though the specs are the same. It's basic psychology.

Budgets are serious considerations for many potential purchasers. Also, I'd suggest that bringing it into the "EPIC" family gives it more clout as a product, rather than less (with it's "Lite" designation), and also more clearly defines expected image quality. Same sensor. Same image quality to be expected across the board. The difference is maybe framerates and data rates... perhaps a few less bells and whistles.

Point being if it is called EPIC, people know exactly what to expect in terms of image quality (the same as any other EPIC S35 camera).

I'm loving the Scarlet activity Jim!! :) Excited to see what you got in store for us!

Hmmm.... let me think...

Fixed Lens = Scarlet?

Interchangeable Lenses (S35, FF35, ... ) = EPIC Lite?

What about interchangeable Scarlet 2/3"? I think that EPIC Lite is just for the S35 and up, nothing to do with fixed/interchangeable.

Yeah, could be. Either fixed/interchangeable, or sensor size. Scarlet = 2/2", everything above that EPIC Lite?

Who knows? (Jim does, probably :) )

Great news :) looking forward to the scarlet update. Never thought l might own an Epic but an Epic Light and the fixed scarlet is right up my street.

Sanjin as you have great insight, give me 6 numbers between 1 and 49 for the lottery this weekend here in the UK :) hehehe will split winnings lol

Thanks to Jim and Team RED, let the Dream Come True.

A BIG BIG REQUEST:- Please Please once the Epic Light and Scarlet cameras are up and running, please post some footage as complete downloadable files for all us none RED people, who will be RED people to play around with, so we can get used to grading, work flow etc so once the camera is in our hands we can hit the ground running, this would be such a huge help.

Thanks in advance.

It's not difficult to see where this is coming from. The S35 Scarlet was always a camera that did the most of the things that Epic did that most people (with lower end budgets) cared about.

I hope there isn't a too big price increase, because the S35 Scarlet at this point was already reaching slightly above my financial limits. Pushing it further would definately make it out of my price range and more into RED One territory (a camera which I always defended, liked, but never could buy because it was out of my financial league)
I'm sure it will always be a good deal, but I just hope I still will be able to buy one, because I've been looking out for an S35 for a big while (making a lot of people warm for it, even past weekend).
It does sound like a price increase is coming. The good news seems to be that maybe, if it's now part of the Epic line, it will also be available sooner than in the original Scarlet-timeline.

I don't mind the Epic Light name, btw.

I guess the guys at scarletuser will be pissed though...

To be fair, the S35 Scarlet would have damaged EPIC sales, because a lot of people wouldn't see the difference between EPIC and Scarlet worth the price difference, so I think we at Scarletuser we're all expecting this to be honest.

At this point, a lot of us are only interested in the 2/3" over at Scarletuser.
