I know I want the EVF Bomb yesterday, you don't have to tell me! However, being an early adopter of R1, I have been reminded over and over that all good things come in time. And they do, too. I love the fact that 99.9 percent of the time Red gets it right before it goes out.

Tough to estimate because it depends on how quickly we get through the existing orders. If I had to GUESS, I would say by end of the year.

Here the short summery of this thread:

Just want to let you guys know Offhollywood took delivery of the first production Bomb EVF today.

We expect to be out of backorder by the end of August.

We are ramping up production on the BOMB EVF. Simple supply and demand...

Hey sorry guys... We have them.. but we are still waiting for final regulatory emissions passing after we upgraded one of the components. We have been given a 2nd week of October day but don't hold us to it.. this one is out of our control.

Absolutely. They are sitting in our warehouse, just waiting on the green light.

The Bomb EVF is made in Germany, so it will likely be a week before the batches start to arrive on our side of the pond and go through QA. We of course do have some in California that have been waiting to go out as well, and those lucky owners will start to get calls tomorrow....

Now the EVF got finally the green light… but still not shipping in significant quantities (BTW -who got one besides “offHollywood” ? – please hands up)

I've been told you can place deposits, and this will sit in your account until the units are available. I was told you then receive an email letting you know when it is available, and you pay the full amount. I've had mine on order for almost 10 months, and have not been advised that mine is ready to be shipped, which would suggest that perhaps many people have ordered one, and you just have to wait until you have been advised.

Don't know where you got 25x and 2000x.... We are shipping - but a lot of people had orders for RED EVF plus new orders for BOMB EVF.

In my humble opinion, the utilization of a deposit system should be employed as soon as possible when it comes to the upcoming media transition. Asking for deposits on SSD drives, readers, and R1 side modules ASAP will give Red a handle on the type of demand that they are going to face. :willy_nilly:

This will be most valuable when it comes to the 1.8" SSD Red Mag drives.

Even if you guys are able to make an estimation like ... "Okay 70-80% of current camera owners will want a side module and a reader", you will not have that luxury when it comes to the SSD drives (in three different sizes).

Will most people want the 64GB drives due to economic uncertainty?
Will there be a massive demand of the 128GB drives because they offer a good level of capacity at a doable cost?
Will people throw caution to the wind and run to the larger 256GB drives?


I know what Ketch will do. He will order ten of each. :laugh:

I'm aware that some people hate leaving deposits and then waiting. However, I like to lock myself in. It helps me budget and save ... but more importantly I think it gives you guys at Red a strong indication of what kind of supply and demand issues you will face ... at least to begin with.

Beyond that, those deposits obviously give Red reliable capitol to launch in a big way.

Just my two cents. (which I would like to leave as a deposit)

Peter, understood. There are arguments for both sides - accept deposits before release versus only accepting orders once released. We decide on a product-by-product basis which makes most sense...
