  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just wanted to say don't feel like you've let people down. The new HDRx mode is something I've been waiting for, for years. You guys had the balls to do it. The implications for vfx integration are huge.

You may have upset a lot of people, but cinema would be a lot farther behind if you hadn't pushed this.

You guys may not know what you are are doing, as you say, but your team has invented about 10 new camera technologies in the last six months.

I think that not knowing any better is going to pay off with Epic in a big way.

Jim, as someone who has had amazing (imo) ideas but always struggled with the financial side of things to get something off the ground. I say... grab a damn camera, point it at your beautiful, beautiful face... and make us a video about all of this.
 
Jim, If we had to wait for anyone else or another company to implement these MASSIVE changes in film technology then we'd all be dead before it transpired. You know we're all proud of you don't you big guy!
 
Scarlet is worth the wait and patience is a virtue, l know Epic is first but for my work and client profile scarlet will be the game changer, its the camera l want, money is ready and waiting in the bank.

Jim it's truly worth the wait, my current camera the EX1R is good, and is fine, my business is good, but you have my vote and money once l can order my scarlet and shoot with it, the word fine wont ever be needed as scarlet will blow the doors off and fantastic will replace fine.

Damn, so about $100 left to make and sell your first product? How'd it go from there to major corporation? Did you eventually pick up investors along the way those first couple of years?

Jim, I was born in April 1975.

14 years later I walked into a sport store at our local shopping center and plonked down (I think) $90aud for my first pair of Frogskins, with orange Iridium lenses. I saved long and hard for those sunglasses and once I had them I thought I was the coolest guy on the block.

Seems 21 years later you've got me doing a similar thing all over again.

I'm fighting for my life right now. But I've found that it's in the thickest part of the battle that you discover you really do have what it takes to keep going... to keep going and succeed. I'm sure your melancholy will pass the next time you pick up your Epic.

1975? I'd be curious to know how much of this adventure was due to some of the earliest focus on a unique design in a world governed at the time, and still very much today, almost exclusively by left brain thinkers.
 
The only pitfall I'm experiencing is spending my hard earned cash on inferior Canon, Sony and Panasonic products.

USC. I never heard back from any of them. Since they are the premier institutions in the land, you guys shouldn't pay much attention to what I say. They didn't seem to care much... I guess they teach "real" marketing and business principles. :-)

F*ck those guys. They are the "Box" that you think outside of. Our country and our economy would be orders of magnitude greater if more people took your path. I not only want to hear your story, I want to write it. I'd know what to ask.

As for my confidence in You, personally, I bought a camera from you sight-unseen that doesn't exist yet, but cost more than my Grandparents first house-- I know just enough about what you're doing to be completely amazed every day by what you are accomplishing. The Epic camera should not exist, it should not be possible yet if we were to believe the Establishment.

The thing is, I feel you're on my side. I don't get that from any other company. They just want my money. They could give a shit about what kind of filmmaker I am. That's not "marketing", that's a measure of the Man.

So, Thank You for all the hard work you are doing and funding and driving. And thanks for not going to Fiji yet, I'm sure you're building some Bond-Villain lair on your island that will rock- so thanks for putting off that dream. I wouldn't have the fortitude to delay that.

I just feel bad- I just want to help- if only there was something I could do to contribute to the effort besides buy the camera.

Hey, I paid a deposit for a camera with some amazing 13.5 stops of latitude and a CF module. Now you give me a camera that can capture about 10 times as much light, and how much more does it cost? Nothing.

I put my deposit down for what I thought was a phantasmic ISO 800, now you casually mention ISO 50.000. WOW - and nobody comments on that? What can you shoot with 50.000? Is it a candle to light a forest? Again, at no extra cost.

I also get a new color science. I get Magic Motion. All for free.

And I can not imagine what you guys will come up in the months and years after the release. RED has shown that their cameras get better and better, without any cost to the customers.

Eirik can tell you what an impatient soul I am, but man, every second of waiting will be worth it.
