Hi
A client just asked me if they could record the HD SDI out from the Camera to a DVCProHD Deck. I searched for some info but only found some results for recording to Ki Pro. Anyone with any advice ? Sure would appreciate any thoughts on the quality of this if it is possible.

Thanks in advance

Taylor

It's great! A lot of high end Hollywood films are doing this for their Super35 film productions. It's a terrific idea. Rather than messing with mag changes, rushes, digital intermediates, and all that jazz, the new way of doing things is just to record the video tap to DVCProHD. This results in much higher convenience, and the quality is just as good as a 4K film scan. The only difference is that after you're done shooting you can just throw the film in the garbage. Same thing with the RED ONE.

;)

720p out only on record, reduced debayer quality. You can do 1080p in playback mode if you want to do it like that, but again, you are only at a half debayer, no raw. DVCPROHD is also a dying codec, which a lot of flaws. Including macro blocking, and just terrible with handling subtle shadow detail in general. Ki pro might be a better option, or just renting a red rocket station for a day and transcoding all your footage to high quality pro res... later will give you best results, and more control.

Yes you can, but for what application?

Thanks for the advise so far...tongue in cheek or not... Client is simply needing a copy of footage for playback in a broadcast truck on site. We are shooting interviews and all raw footage will be properly transcoded at a later date but they would like to be able to tape a few clips as we roll to use right away (DVCPROHD is there choice not mine) for a quick trip to the broadcast truck. Thoughts? Thanks Stuart for your attention
