  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The R90

Can you program different stop points into that arc, or does it only do the one 90 turn?

yes.. two modes, a fluid mode or a click-click indexed mode that rotates through degrees of travel.

This is manual, no motors.

Something seems to have changed slightly since "Crackpot"

Here is a hint.

heh heh good eye..

about the center axis.. From my experience its not as necessary as people think. You will notice that most ball heads when positioned in their right angle position are off axis. Balanced weight distribution is much more important ( IMHO ). Many photographers would switch from portrait to landscape on a tripod if they could.. In fact, there are a ton of brackets out there for use on tripods that make you release the cameras and rotate and re-lock.. this makes things much more fluid and simple, specially when you have a full kit with matte box etc.

So can you show what a still picture would look like if you shot it with this set up??

Ha, pretty neat. I have a buddy that is a professional photographer and is already upset with Red over the increasing use of motion capture frame grabs for still work (print stuff especially) because he finds it to be lacking artistic integrity. He will really be pissed when he sees some of these still-centric tools you guys are creating for DSMC....

what would be the best way to center the lens/sensor so that as the body rotates, the lens does not change position/location. (i hope this makes sense!)

WOW..... ARE YOU trying to give a heart-attack to the rest of the Camera making industry with that thing??

To keep the axis centered takes a rig that is much bigger.

Only bad news is schedule... :-) The good news is that everything is much better than you expect.

No problem with R1 on this rig.

A buddy of mine recently asked me why I keep talking about RED. I said RED is a photographic think-tank; and this just helps prove that…

Color me fanboy.
