okay, guys I know this is NOT a real comparison to Jarred's post (hey, it's not even a true comparison in size in the picture itself), but it sprang to my mind and just for the fun of it, I had to make this...

In defense of the phonograph more than one person can listen at a time. :D

Also vinyl sounds better. Though probably not through that speaker horn.

Let the great analog vs. digital debate recommence for the millionth time!

Funny. Just over the weekend I listened to some original and virtually unplayed Caruso records from about 1905 on a vintage gramophone. Enlightening stuff.

I made a couple of quick recordings and put it onto iTunes for my Grandfather. Kind of an odd experience altogether.

Hahahaha..... Super Funny....

Just listened to some vinyl on a phonograph today, the ipod cant even get close. Its almost euphoric.
And Patrick meant that the Alexa was like the Phonograph and Red the iPod in this example if I caught his meaning:emote_head_explode:

iPods (the classics anyway, nano's and iPhones are not so good) can play decent tunes. Most people only have MP3s or AACs on their iPods and use the white earbuds - the horned phonograph will out do those probably. Try the line-out of your iPod with some lossless audio. You'll at least have CD quality. (I'm not going to argue the whole vinyl-CD thing)

that gramophone looks like it is still in perfect working order after all these years.. I wonder how many iPods will still be working in 60 or so years?

Sometimes, this makes me sad. There are lots of plastics we'd assumed would stick with us for thousands of years, which turn out to have half-lives of mere decades. Here we were, the 20th century, finally at a point where we were aware we'd want to keep some stuff for posterity's sake - and it is still gone. We're still not very good at it. It's probably not impossible to produce an Epic which will still work in 50 years, but things like touchscreen components... they haven't been around long enough to know just how they'll age.
