  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

State of the Art Mattebox

Sorry Steve, I have to call "false advertising" on this. I don't know where you think a matte is going to go on this thing! This clearly NOT a matte box, it's a sun shade. (but it's a really 'sweet' sunshade...)
Yes, but the RED community would not be so interested in a state of the art sunshade. :-)

And you forgot, I mentioned special multistage features. :biggrin5:

Another State of Art...
How to Do...

Kwan, very cool. But a bit too expensive, and a little too time consuming for me. Mine takes less than 1 minute to build and parts are very easy to come by in my household, seeing that they ship with some very delicious filler.

Seriously though, that's a very cool DIY mattebox. Thanks for sharing that.

I think my favorite mattebox of all time has to be the LMB-5. Not perfect for every situation, but when I'm not on commercials or features where an MB-20 or others are the MB of choice, it's hard to beat this mattebox for weight, durability, and price.

Hahahahaha..
Agreed and also super light weight...

Yes on the Manfrotto. http://www.filmtools.com/5298bhihat.html

The folding flat part works well if you need to recycle it someday. It's a bonus feature you get for nothing.

If I can get 20 or more of you in a group buy, the cost goes down to $1.99 plus free shipping.

The case it comes in is ingenious. Similar to the mattebox itself.

Still need to get this approved by RED to avoid any conflict of interest with their upcoming mattebox., but I suspect we will get cleared and an Epic version will be available in the future.

It's a multistage capable mattebox. Stay tuned for details....

There will be a Pro black version. It has a gaffer tape finish. Quite beautiful actually.

And not to spill the beans, but I might have an LCD hood in the works as well. I'll let you know when I'm ready to take deposits on that one.

Steve! this price very attractive. I can sell many of them even to Arri Film camera guys in India. Can you give me distribution in India may be perhaps South East Asia? Please... Please....

@Steve is the $2.99 price with or without inner contents? I suggest a gym membership, personal trainer, and personal nutrition chef if it is sans-contents, and you are "emptying" the contents yourself. Personally I would also like a "Samoas" themed sunshade/mattebox (only if I can empty the contents).

Will try to see what international distribution is possible. Would the boxes need to be in the language of whatever country they are going to? How does one say Cookie in India, Italy, Germany, etc? Plätzchen, biscotto,.....

No problem, Cookie is called Cookie in India. Anyway name don't make any difference. Many our DPs cant read.

That might be an option. Kind of DIY. I send you the box with contents and some instructions on how to empty the contents and build the mattebox. I will have to have a disclaimer too that says I am not responsible for any weight gain attributed to buying this mattebox.

Thank you very much. I was afraid, you may have policy like RED and only wants to sell via WEB.

Haha... got me, I was expecting something really fancy I had never seen before.

What? No time to paint the inside with a sharpie? slackerr!!
