My wife and I were flipping through channels in bed, and we stumbled upon the most fascinating documentary. It was about a true pioneer and visionary of the captured image who made his mark during the first half of the twentieth century. About twenty minutes into it I blurted out, "This guy is made of the same cloth as Jim Jannard." My wife, half asleep, told me to stop talking and go to bed. I still see so many parallels between what this guy did and what Jim Jannard has done (and will do in the years ahead).

Am I an idiot for never hearing of this guy before? I'm best described as a film dabbler than film professional, but I'd like to think I know my history. I'll post the picture of the guy below, and the first person to ID him correctly has a choice meal waiting at a fine Chicago restaurant whenever you next find yourself in the Windy City.

Very few photos were ever taken of him - here's one of them:

I hope it takes longer than tomorrow morning before I get an answer...

Dammit, Deanan!! I'm guessing you didn't reverse-search that image. I always suspected I was an ignorant bastard. Thanks for confirming it. Did everyone out there immediately know it too? I'm rapidly developing a serious complex.

Dr. Jekyll?

Jim

Deanan, shoot me an email at philstefani at gmail dot com next time you're headed to Chicago. Dinner for you and a guest, with several restaurants to choose from, awaits.

Jim, there's definitely a resemblance there. If you don't mind, I'm just going to assume that you had never heard of Albert Kahn either, and that should suffice as a temporary salve for my bruised ego. But I think it's a safe bet that you're very familiar with the man.

Damnation. Good night.

He also promoted education at the highest level through travelling scholarships

When I saw the title of this thread I expected it to be replete with ass kissing and heavy breathing... Like a bunch of women at a Brad Pitt appearance. I was pleased to learn something and get a laugh instead.
KAHN!!!!!!!!

I didn't know Kahn, but from what I'm reading I am inclined to agree with the OP. Thanks.

Dr. Jekyll?

Your appearance improves considerably after you've had your coffee then?

Khan and Jim sure do look alike, although yes, Jim is much better looking :-)

I can't recommend the BBC book that is available alongside the doc series. it is incredible. Not only from a photographic standpoint but also from anthropological standpoint.

So Jim should be dubbed 'Parakhan' which literally means beyond Kahn. I like it!! Jim 'Parakhan' Jannard...
