  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bug...

This level of hubris is amazing... and disappointing.

Joofa, got a resume to forward?

-sc

He made an AE plug in that loads 5 edits from a CMX, so he's an industrial expert. What an a$$, and no wonder he won't use his name for such inanity.

Joofa... this is a difficult trick. We have over 200 engineers working on this. And I'm quite sure that we have a small team compared to others.

No offense but this is not easy. We haven't been working on this for 5 years... just a couple. EPIC is entirely different than the RED ONE. The ability to shrink the package by 60% and increase the capability by 500% was an aggressive goal. For you to say that you and your colleagues could do this in a shorter time is just... (no words here)

Truly, if anyone would do this... we wouldn't have to. I'd love to be in Fiji right now without a care in the world. But no one would do this if we didn't push it. I'm convinced that is true...

Jim

You are correct.

Why am I so sure? Because no one had. Period.

Now you've got every corporate, studio stooge, spewing RED from their corpulent lips. I get a little agitated about that system and its share of fair weather fans. Just sayin'.

Sorry... this is where I would be.

And why this one? What's so special about that one over the other? Less inhabited? Higher elevation?

Life is short. People are measured by what they do... and not what they say they are going to do. So trust me when I tell you I will not rest until we do what I said we will do.

Jim

I'm sorry... Can someone point to another CEO of two companies who takes the time to communicate with his client base as much? Over 5000 posts on this board alone...

I'm sure we'll all be frustrated from time to time, on the consumer end as well as the provider end, but the fact that the One exists at all is amazing, and at it's price point...

I'm sure Epic will be epic, and Scarlet will impress, and that Jim Jannard will be be judged as the man who pioneered the digital film-making age.

Bob

(is it a coincidence that 'pioneered' ends in 'red'?

And why this one? What's so special about that one over the other? Less inhabited? Higher elevation?

That's where unobtanium comes from.

I have a feeling that this Foxconn change is a harbinger of a larger trend in the price of manufactured goods from Asia that is destined to continue.

I agree: it happened with Japan, to some extent Korea and soon China. When you have a huge glut of unskilled labor, wages have to start very low to entice the work away from closer, more skilled labor pools. But eventually everyone wants to improve their lot in life so as they develop they want more income. Not to mention the Henry ford model where he essentially overpaid his laborers relative to the prevailing market wage - so that they could afford to buy his new product.

True commoditized products like computers and phones that sell in the millions will still be very labor price sensitive, but products like Epic where the main components - circuit boards, sensors, and heavy metal parts (i.e. not thin stamped parts) - are essentially made on computerized CNC/robotic equipment, the price difference is not as great when offset by better communication, easier alterations, less shipping, etc. that comes with working in the home country.

At least I hope that will be the case. :-) I really want to see the best "goto" video and cinema camera (i.e. not just a few multimillion dollar spy satellite cameras) be "Made in the USA". I got into our industry in the early eighties just as RCA was shutting down - after years of dominating the camera market. - and it was sad to see them go.

M-X upgrade program is unaffected and rolling along at a good clip thanks to Brian, Brent and Kelly (and many others). No issues here.

Jim

I have one issue with you, Jim. You have to stop confessing, that you guys don't know what you're doing. Bad confessions like that can prevent the entire Red team from walking in the full wisdom it can. Instead say,

we know what we are doing and we're solving all the problems we encounter.

Jim,
Look on the bright side, at least your company is not responsible for dumping 60,000 barrels of oil a day into the ocean. ;)

Ahh.... Brian Bosworth what ever happened to him....

I'll will say that as old as those glasses are, they still look good. Mabey If you have some laying around, you could slap a Red logo on 'em and ship them with the Stage-2 upgraders. [B^|)

I would rather have you guys find the bug before release, than for me to find it after.

Thanks for the update!

Our bug is doomed. Just a matter of time. We could kill it tomorrow. Or it may take some time. I have no idea. Neither does engineering. But it will happen.

Jim
WoooHooo! Glad to hear your back and doing better. I hope your health continues in the positive direction.
As far as the bug, this is exactly the stage that you set to find this sort of thing.
Remember, man who employs SWAT can accomplish anything.

I don't understand how anyone could possibly think they could do what Red is doing right now. Of course I am bummed I have to wait longer for my dream camera but only because it's my dream camera and I want it yesterday. I applaud your work and now I have more time to save to build the sickest kit I can. Thank you for being so open and keeping us informed on whats going on.
