  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VERY wishful voting, Jay. . .

If Jim is serious about having everything put to bed—lock, stock, and barrel—then I think that August is truly the impossible dream. I'm betting on early 2011.

October seems reasonable, though September could happen. I remind myself that Stage 2 are early adopters; users of limited number who are proven able to work on an evolving platform. Stage 2 needn't be as bulletproof as the Epic final release or say, the Scarlet. In that context September is actually a really possible timeframe, I think.

It's all about positive mental attitude - it's not about belief, it's about remembering that it has already happened, we just haven't experienced it yet. The first Stage II EPIC-X rolled out the door in August 2010, don't you remember?

Is there a specific reason people think Tattoo is going to be that much longer than the original couple months estimate?

All features don't have to be enabled to start shipping Stage 2. That is what firmware updates are for. As long as the hardware is solid and the features that are enabled work reliably, I say ship 'em to me!

I think this is spot on. It seems to me that many people are trying to protect themselves against disappointment and thus are playing everything down. We are clearly into Tattoo and, given the time and expertise that has gone into getting this far (let's not forget there is actually a shipping RED ONE MX and has been for awhile) you have to ask what would take "several more months?" Of course, something could go drastically wrong - there is always that possibility. But, I doubt Jim et al would have gone into Tattoo if they didn't think they had a lot of things in hand right now. I am sticking to the idea that the active Tattoo program will take about 45 days and then, assuming nothing is terribly wrong (!!), another 15 days to "clean up." My prediction: odds are very good (but less than 100%, of course) that Epic Stage 2 will begin about Sept 1. :thumbup1:

Of course, "everything is subject to change." :laugh:
 
My guess is shipping in Late September/early October.

Even if that estimate is correct, I don't think mine will ship until November or December, with such a high camera number.

(still have another 3500 cameras to go before mine can get M-Xed!!!)

I think its important to consider what the Tatoo results are. If in filed testing they find something that needs to be addressed and that is not a simple fix then it will push back the time line significantly.

Obviously hoping for sooner than later but, 'this is a very complicated case. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-yous.'

its also important that if epic ships, 2000 units per months should be the goal (wish wish).
so i say, tatoo the shit out of the camera, take your time...and when it ships, it should ship in masses.
 
i think this poll mostly demonstrates the difference between the people in the front of the line vs. those more towards the rear. my red was #121 so i know i'm more towards the front. i put my deposit down and have the balance ready to go so i would like it as soon as possible. i'm not interested in a bulletproof camera because i won't be renting it out for the first month or two anyway. i want to tinker with it and shoot some short stuff to get acclimated to the new hardware's workflow. i'm happy to add firmware updates as they come and learn with the curve.

i don't think red will suffer from a small production run initially. it will be very similar to the red one release. a few problems here and there but only a fool would bank an entire production on a brand new camera even if it's claimed to be a bulletproof release.
 
Tattoos arent even out in the wild yet (Jarred himself said the firmware isn't done). So if Tattoos get out sometime in July, then i'd expect a 2-3 month Tattoo if everything goes well. So I think Oct 1 for stage 2 first batch is sort of a best case scenario, unless Jim decides to do sort of a stage 1.5 and release "Stage 2" to the first 50 or 100 serial #s as sort of a secondary 'Tattoo' so to speak.
