  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I would really be careful nowadays, especially if I want to get funding for a film or make it in the business where online research more and more plays a part in ones reputation.

But everyone gets what they deserve :)

Jarred, I love this thread too, and your statement above pretty much perfectly sums up what it is like with any small business that truly cares about what they are doing.

"The customer is always right..." is a good motto to keep in mind when first dealing with a difficult customer, because it helps you slow down, try to see their point of view, and ultimately handle things better. But the customer ISN'T always right, in fact they often aren't right because they don't know as much as the manufacturer and/or don't understand the other factors at play. And after a point, it comes time to tell them so.

As far as people taking things personal, well in a way it is personal but people here also need to remember that it is like family: usually no one can hurt you with things they say as much as family members - but right or wrong you take it in, absorb it, learn from it and forgive and forget - because ultimately they're family and their heart is in the right place.

I sometimes disagree with you or things that RED does (and Hey I even own a new "Betacam" and an old Betacam) and sometimes think I'm still right, but I have learned over 3 years and hundreds of hours reading, thinking about, and posting on reduser that all of your hearts (even those multiple personalities) are in the right place.


PS....I just put that thing in about the Betacam and the Betacam cause I wanted to see Betacam turned into betacam for myself.

Not to hijack the trajectory of this thread, but every time we release firmware for camera, software, want to announce an upgrade program, etc - we email our customers. So, yes, there is an alternative.

As one of the gang here that does know a thing or two about being sensitive and understanding to our broad base of customer needs and wants and trying to navigate the trajectory of a company that had no idea what we were doing a few years ago to now where know at least a couple of things - I have to tell you guys, I totally loved reading through this thread.. I couldn't stop chuckling at all the various comments and angles... it's fun to lighten up and know we are all doing some pretty fun stuff out there!! Enjoy every insane minute of it... I am!

And regarding the Bomb EVF - it was fun to tell people on my last round of travels that a bit of black gaffer tape can be your best friend at Airport security :-) That always got a laugh in the presentations.

Life is short folks - adventure and risk/reward is around every corner - take advantage of it when you can!

I like RED for being so unconventional. Things like "Betacam", "#21", and the "Bomb EVF".

RED is different than all the others so we need to expect it. It's kinda like Apple. Don't treat 'em like a conventional PC and you should be pleased...

... if perhaps Red is made up of big kids. And hopes we are big kids too.

And, perhaps when they feel that the conversation about other issues is detracting from the usefulness of their Red-product focused forum, and would like folks to move some conversations to a more appropriate forum, would hope that just asking would suffice.

But of course that doesn't work. Because lots of not-so-big-kids come to play here as well, it would seem.

So... they COULD constantly babysit threads, asking people to move them elsewhere, etc.... kind of a pain, and feels a little bit like you are looking after pre-schoolers.

Or, they could go all dicatorship, and simply ban accounts who start discussions about product X. Feels a bit much, and who really wants that?

So hey! Why don't we do something kinda fun and wacky to give people a hint, and at the same time get a chuckle out of it! These people are smart, surely they'll put two-and-two together and realize we really were sincere about our request to move these discussions elsewhere, right?

After all, these are adults, and certainly would much rather a humourous prod as opposed to some formal crackdown? And they recognize this is a privately-owned forum that we are participating in? Right?
