  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Would you add a limiter?

So unless i missed something there are no limiters on the red. I'm used to having limiters on the lauvs, mixer, and recorder, but with this shoot all I have is one on the sure Fp33 mixer.

I do have a small Crate SM4-CL compressor limiter that I could put in the line after the mixer.

I am concerned that the signal path would go from xlr to 1/4 in/out back to xlr to mini to the red and losing quality through my signal path. This is of course a low budget and I am at the mercies of the budget goods.

Thanks for any advice.

More than you think...

You actually have one (1) peak limiter per output channel (ie 2/stereo) on the mixer. http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/MixersAndDSP/us_pro_FP33_content
I never use limiters on the mic pres, but I can understand why you want a limiter before the input on the RED. Just use the output peak limiters on the FP33, and set your levels correctly.

I would use the LINE out and send it to the LIN input on the RED, which should give you the cleanest signal.
