Finally we seem ready to roll out the first beta of GAMP.
It will be a pretty full fledged workflow application, and we have a pretty ambitious scheme on the rollouts of updates, but the first iteration focuses on the copy part of it.

The first beta is "by invite", but I wouldn't mind inviting a few of my reduser friends into this.
I am writing the documentation right now (so these pages aren't finished, and the webadress is just a placeholder)
But this is the current format-support (which is natively supported and handled by the app. You can copy "anything")

GAMP already does a few tricks I haven't seen anyone else do, and it's been in daily production (alongside our hardware) in a couple of countries and on large productions for a few months by now.
And given no bandwith limitations, it's 1/3 faster at secure copies than any other app I have tested.

Gunleik, call me crazy, but you need a page on your website explaining in more detail what GAMP does and what steps it assists with in the post process. I get the vague understanding that it's about copying and archiving files, maybe also in creating dailies, and organizing files for the editor, but the wording is not specific enough. I'd also like to understand how it would work with existing solutions like ShotPut Pro, 5th Kind, and so on. Maybe a chart comparing GAMP to these competing products would put it all in perspective.

Perfectly valid questions.

This is the first public beta of GAMP, and THIS beta focuses on copy/ingest.
Compared to existing tools, it is basically faster, more secure and more multi-tasking.

We have snug-in an alpha-conform, where you can conform metadata from Movieslate, and export into a FCP7 XML, to get a more "ready" logging project directly off set.

On-set now, GAMP assists in more real-time and realtime'ish workflows, when paired with our HAL box, even in a multi-ca setup.
GAMP pulls editorials directly off the HAL box when a shot is done, and transcodes those to dailies.

MovieSlate® sends us an xml, once the shot is finished, which we use to get dailies that can be sorted by Scene/Slate/Take/Roll/Day
+ that the script-sups entries are available in the Dailies Viewer.

These are just first steps though, and for this release, it is the Copy part of the app we want to have feedback for.

Here's the features in Beta1:

And here are the first 4 introductionary videos (sans audio)
http://gamp.mixedrealities.no/?page_id=144

And here is the form to apply to get into the beta-program.

GAMP is developed to be the backbone of this realtime- and post workflow:
http://www.popartproject.eu/

But we have a few productions we run tests on, before releasing public betas.

https://vimeo.com/147275568

But I'll try to make a feature-set comparison over the week.

Right now, we start to mail out links to the first few "not close partner" testers.

there is a feedback-system in the app and here are the questions we are looking for answers to:
http://gamp.mixedrealities.no/?page_id=346

First beta is set to timebomb Jan 15th.
Beta2 is on schedule for December.
Beta3 should be out by Jan 15th, with a lot more of conform and transcode functionality and a smoother realtimeintegration with MovieSlate® and Drylab.

It's always very sketchy to present roadmaps, but here are three unique sides of GAMP (not the beta1)

• We record, store and create relations between all data and meta-data, from planning to delivery. We have ways to collect the broadest/fullest metadata-set I have seen.

• We export conformed VFX-bundles (files and meta-data), update ShotGun and will write f. ex Nuke projects, based on editorials.

• We're tuned for real-time workflows and have supported that daily on larger sets since August, (with our hardware).

• We record our actions, so that you can re-run batches "same but different". Let's say you want to batch recreate your VFX plates in 4k ACES after for re-mastering, if original release is done in 2k Linear

• Multiuser (Not Beta1). People on-set, in logging, or preparing VFX/Post can read/write to the same database at the same time.

• Multi-project (In Beta1) •*you can work in parallell with several projects from within the same instance of the application. Start ingest on one project, switch projects and do conforms and/or ingests for that, swithch to third project and do another task there. Made for larger ingest- and post environments.

• Extremely secure

• Smart reports

Here is the request form:

Hope this helps!

Hello Gunleik,

Thanks for the app! It's really simple and I love the "smart folders" detecting the nature of the file (R3D, audio, ...) . Would your programm also detect 3D metadata L & R and put them in the appropriate folders? (call me lazy ;-) )

Thanks

Pat

This is a great app. Straightforward, simple fast and efficient.

Really enjoying it so far, it's going to be a "must have" for anyone in digital capture.

Did a very quick transfer test and it did seem VERY fast. Wasn't sure of the formal feedback mechanism until coming back here and reading the above post. I'll try to look a little closer at how things are working.

Not sure if this is included in the information but I seem to recall a mention of this product being closely aligned with Premiere. As a FCPX user I have to ask... can we expect it to work in an FCPX workflow?

Thanks for including me, Gunleik!

beta 3...

Beta2 is well on schedule, it will focus a lot on metadata harvesting, speed and stability + of course the live-workflows we're making.
We allready do some amazing stuff with RED metadata, and will add other cameras to that pool of functioning cameras + capture FIZ data and use it live.

You'll also get a GUI to set up your own structure for your project (unless you find ours good, of course), and we'll take the logging conform a bit further. (No GUI to finish it in Beta 2, but THAT and a lot of transcoding tasks will come in beta3).

We will also add more cameras as "recognised"
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Really appreciate it!

And if anyone else wanna try, here's the link:

We'll be in beta for a while, so use it at your hearts desire!

The order will be:
Premiere
AVID
FCPX

But FCPX is on the map for the integration. We have to do one at the time. As things are, good integrations take time and money....

Did a bit of speedtesting on the copy app today.
Measured from copy initiated until copy verified.
Not measuring the practical fastness of using the different apps...

All on the same hardware.

Silverstack, shotput pro, R3D data manager and Offload.

And GAMP, of course...

The relative difference increases on bigger batches, and would mostly be true whether u use speedy disks or slow disks.

Beta2 is shaping up nicely.

Demoed a slightly bigger workflow today focusing on speedy daily creation into Drylab Dailies Viewer with metadata from movieslate.

in average the files and metadata were ready for upload after twice the length of the shot.
Say a shot is 1 minute, it's ready for editorial and the dailies viewer 2 minutes after hitting record.

We also automatically structure the dailies on-disk in scene/slate order (in folders), as long as you use Movieslate and HAL.

Just one note - I believe R3D Data Manager is actually EOL and replaced by DoubleData. Might make more sense to test that for comparison.

True, and I'll use that too in the next comparison. Judging from my feedback, a lot of users still use R3D data, though.

The "Offload" results are probably hampered by bad handling of shared SANs.
But it landed at 6.30.
I think the relative difference will increase with bigger batches, so I will try to re-run the test with the fastest contenders on a full 256 GB mag.

We'll add gopro, C300 and FS7 to the next release, a more flexible file-structure and a real automated workflow into Drylab Dailies Viewer (with metadata from MovieSlate)

As we have it, a 1 minute shot done on a RED is ready for Dailies Viewer 2 minutes after record was hit.

I think then this will be a great tool for the script (to have dailies sorted on scene/slate/take)

We'll also sort the dailies on the main project directory on episode/scene/slate/take
And give circled takes priority in the viewer

But the Beta2 is mostly about database functionality.
Beta 3 is about conforms/Transcodes and multiuser functionality.

We plan to make a solution where licensed GAMP's on the same network can share transcode tasks.

Beta 4 will be a lot about that

Beta2 will have a windows and Linux version.
Not sure if those will be distributed only by invite or not, yet.

We have extended the download on the old GAMP on the same link.
Feeling a bit like... a lot of other software developers right now...

But new version is close... :)
